Derby, Kansas
United States
Derby Recreation Center
Overcast
Total Time = 1h 10m 50s
Overall Rank = 11/
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 2/
Pre-race routine:

Woke up...muched on a granola bar...loaded up and headed to Derby. We were running behind because it had rained the night before and the truck bed was full of water so I had to sweep it all out before I put my bike back there.
Event warmup:

Not much...spent quite a bit of time looking for a spot to rack my bike. The transition area was way too small and there was very little room to accomidate all the bikes. Some people took too much room. I should have showed up earlier and found a good spot.
Swim
  • 08m 11s
  • 437 yards
  • 01m 52s / 100 yards
Comments:

The pool swim went really well for me. I beat the time I entered by about 7 seconds and was able to pass a couple of people during the swim. The was tons of room in the lane and was able to easily navigate and pass.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing...maybe practice more.
Transition 1
  • 00m 37s
Comments:

I had a pretty quick T1 (9th fastest), but I really haulded it and almost crashed my bike into a curb while trying to get clipped in.
Bike
  • 42m 9s
  • 14 miles
  • 19.93 mile/hr
Comments:

I felt pretty decent during the ride eventhough I hadn't been able to get a ride in at all the previous week. There was a nice down hill where I was able to get over 30 mph.
What would you do differently?:

Ride more.
Transition 2
  • 00m 58s
Comments:

Transition was pretty tight and I had trouble finding my spot...there were other bikes racked in my spot so I had to take some extra time to move them. It took me too long to tie my shoes.
What would you do differently?:

Invest in some speed laces.
Run
  • 18m 54s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 06m 06s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt kind of numb, but smooth during the run and didn't feel like I pushed it my hardest.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and drank water.

Event comments:

This was the first year for this event and I thought they did a great job. I'll certainly do it again.

Thanks a bunch!  I do enjoy the feeling of passing people on the run...running is one of the only things that I actually feel natural doing.
