Received the following in a 3D update email (like most did):

"Due to the race doubling in size, bike, run, transition area, and the finish line will be west of 23 this year literally right downtown. So after finishing your swim you will cross 23 entering the transition area right downtown East Tawas.  Brand new very cool run course winding you through the residential streets of East Tawas before an excellent finish right downtown among all the quaint shops and stores. This was our year 3 or 4 buildout projection for the event and you made it happen in year 2. This will prove to be a great improvement to an obvious exellent event and venue.  So now everything will be located right downtown."

Of all the things I was looking forward to about returning to Tawas, it was getting to run along the bay (and this time, hopefully not in the pouring rain).  Just how dumb do they think we are?  OOOOooohhh yes, Kenny, you're right, I'd so much rather run through residential streets than on they bay and sprint across 23 to get to T1, SWEEEEEET!!!  C'mon!!!!!

I was kinda of wondering about that email too.  I enjoy running along any lake shore and if were stuck just cruising through the town it will be quite boring.

I read that email earlier, shook my head in disgust, and smiled smugly because this confirms why I will NEVER do another 3-D race ever.  Last year's bad customer service was enough for me.

I'd love to walk away from them and never look back, BUT my kids are in to the kid's tri events and they all but own the chances to do these (However, Element Events did a kid's tri i Howell and it was OUTSTANDING).  I lost my tri-viginity up at Tawas and was SOOOOOOOOOOO looking forward to this year's event and am beyond ######.

Elite Endeavors also does a kid's tri in Sylvania.  I did the women's tri in Sylvania with EE and it was wonderful.  There are some up and coming races that aren't associated with 3-D.  I understand your point about the kids but for the adult events there definitely are other options with Elite Endeavors, Element Events, EST, Running Fit, and I'm sure there are other that I can't think of.

Wow.  I was kind of looking at that Tri depending on how my first one goes on Sunday.

That's just STUPID!  I'd be pissed and demand my money back.  The allure of the event would be running in the bay, not in a residential neighborhood.

Yeah, I'm with JoGo.  that's about solidifying it for me as well.  I *half* thought, ooooooo, maybe my knee would get better and I could hurry up enter Tawas Half.  fugheddaboutit.  What with the escalating costs associated with races, I'm definitely gonna pick and choose, and as tempting as local 3D events seem, just not gonna risk it.

To those who've entered, yeah, that blows.  But ya have to admit he did the best spin job he could.  Too bad most could read right through it.

I was going to do a HFP racing event in Ohio, but they changed the date by two weeks this year and I needed a HIM for my IM training and there really wasn't any other options on the weekend of Sept 12 and traveling to Wisconsin or Colorado wasn't an option.  Either way I'm still looking forward to doing Tawas as it brings me one step closer to my ultimate goal.

We'll make the best of it too.  We've got a whole crew heading up there and staying at the resort.  If you can walk after the HIM look for us on the beach and grab a partner for ladder golf, I never leave home without it.

I'm not happy about the run change but it's not the end of the world. I was wondering a few weeks ago about this. With the number of racers going up, would the trail run work? I have done marathons that are on trails like that and it sucked, no room to run.
On the positive side the run may not be so lonely with it running thru the town. We may get more locals hanging out cheering us on. that really helps me push thru the pain.
