Pre-race routine:

Breakfast at home, traffic free drive to Saint Paul!
Event warmup:

Just loosened up in the water and stretched out.
Swim
  • 14m 5s
  • 875 yards
  • 01m 37s / 100 yards
Comments:

Overall best swim of the year for me.
What would you do differently?:

Swim straighter, I did a lot of zig-zag on the way out.
Transition 1
  • 01m 42s
Comments:

For my second triathlon in a row, I wiped out on the mount. The worst part is I was just doing a standard mount with shoes on. I must get too excited or something but I wasn't used to my slick racing tubulars, they were wet from the transition area and slipped right out from underneath me when I pushed off. I dechained and probably lost a minute after my transition.
What would you do differently?:

Not fall off my bike! Next year I will be practicing transitions as I seem to be losing 1-2 minutes every race compared to people right around me.
Bike
  • 32m 52s
  • 12 miles
  • 21.91 mile/hr
Comments:

Considering I fell off my bike during the mount and had to rechain my bike, I thought it was a decent bike for me. I was gassed on the hills from going out a little too hard 2 days before. Overall I was happy with the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Not fall off my bike, and not train hard 2 days before the race.
Transition 2
  • 01m 14s
Comments:

Horrible transition again, couldn't find my spot.
What would you do differently?:

Practice the transitions...
Run
  • 22m 12s
  • 3.12 miles
  • 07m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

Set a PR for a run for me this year. For a 200# plus guy, I was pretty happy with that run.
What would you do differently?:

Lose Weight.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked it off.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Transitions, Transitions.

Event comments:

Not as bad as people make it out to be. A little disorganized but a good fun race. Plenty of water stations this year so they must have listened to people's comments.

Thank you, I was surprised on the swim and the run, a couple weeks rest must have done well for me!

Great race!  Pretty consistent in all your splits.  Practice definitely will help your transition times.  Good job on the podium finish.
