Subject:Transition Practice and Tri Swap Meet, Sept. 13, Granada Park
Granada Park, Sunday, Sept. 13 at 10:30 a.m.
What: Transition practice and tri swap meet Why: To prepare for the upcoming triathlon season, meet new triathletes, and exchange gear
Anyone who has bike stands to please bring them to make things a little easier.
We'll set up a transition area, simulate getting out of the water and running to the transition area, getting the bike stuff on and biking out onto the canal path for a couple of miles, then coming back and switching from bike to run gear and running for a mile or so.
I'm willing to stay, watch stuff, and time athletes through transition. If athletes want to practice the process a couple of times, that's fine too.
After (or during) the transition practice, everyone who has "extra" tri stuff that you'd like to sell/exchange, bring the stuff along. I have a couple of tables I can set up to put the stuff on.
We'll be bumping into the lunch hour, so anyone who's interested, we can pitch in for sub sandwiches and bring some snacks and drinks.

I will (most likely) be in for the swap meet. I'll help you time, or time if you want to go practice. I've got a few things that I wouldn't mind selling/trading.

Might as well make this a group ride or run too. Granada Park is the south paved end on the Arizona Canal. You can run either direction or bike NW. The entrance to the Dreamy Draw route (my usual ride) is also not far

Sure! I'll probably need to get in a two-hour ride that morning, but I didn't want to dictate anyone else's plans that day, which is why I made the transition practice around 10:30.
But if we wanted to meet at 8:00 and ride for a couple of hours, then come back and set up the transition area, that's okay too. And then if people want to do a group run, that sounds great too! We just need someone who can watch the transition area while people are out biking/running, and I'm willing to stay behind once the transition area is set up. I might sneakily practice a few times while you guys are running.

Rocknfire - 2009-08-25 2:12 PM I will be in Seattle at the Seahawks game that day. Bummer I can't make it.
Oh man - FOOTBALL!!! I totally forgot that Sept. 13 is the opening Sunday of the NFL season. Well, I suppose that's why I have a TIVO unit.
Go Packers!
Nah, we'll be done by 11:30 or so, 1/2 hour to pack and get home, you can still catch the 2nd half of the early game. Then there are the afternoon games, the evening game and then MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL, BABEE!!!

This sounds like fun but I'm not going to make it. I'll be training early and then I'll be getting all liquored up for the Cardinals season opener against the 49ners.

Right now it looks like we only have two people interested in the transition practice (Dave and myself), two people to help (John and Robin), and a bunch of people who have swap meet stuff but can't get together that day.
Anyone else interested in the transition practice and swap meet? Was this a bad day/time to schedule? Anyone got a better idea?

I may try to reschedule, but the problem is that my weekends are pretty well booked through SOMA, and who needs transition practice after SOMA? If someone else wanted to take charge, though, there may have been more interest if I hadn't booked it on a Sunday (and opening day of NFL to boot!).

Or did you mean the ballooning?
I need the practice. Although I am not doing SOMA, I do have a race after that event. You may have even heard of it. Kinda a grassroots thing, but I thought Dean was doing it too. not until Nov (just before thanksgiving).

Kim,
If there is enough interest then I would be happy to help out here. First I think we need to see who is interested and then what date works best for those who are interested. As long as I have advance notice of a Saturday I can schedule my week around it so there wouldn't be any conflict with my schedule.
Who is interested in Transition training and a group run? What day is best for you and do you want to include the Swap meet or not?
