I disgaree. Chip timing is easy enough to do, plenty of programs out there that do it, and do it well. Some are even very inexpensive. The right hardware and good strong cabling should limit issues to problems with individual chips and human error.

Except where the have been machine failures, i've had splits in every race (including transitions), even in races far smaller than this one (less than half). In a sport where there are multiple timed events, proper scoring/timing is key.

TriToy - 2009-09-29 8:14 AM so this is where different RDs get different reputations.  These races are both bare bones races - very homey if you will - don't expect transition times - you are definitely lucky in these smaller races to get splits.

It was the weather that screwed them up apparently.  The website said there would be five splits and then the course was set up for that.  They had mats in and out of transition.  The RD set it up well.  It's not the RD's fault.  It's the timing company's.  That guy took full responsibility.  He said, his swim and bike "boxes" got wet and wouldn't work.  It's unfortunate but not the end of the world.

On a happier note.. Hi everyone! I just wanted to say it was nice meeting those of you I got to meet, and training with those of you I trained with !  This was my first Tri, sprouting from an impulsive thought in mid-august!  I had SO much fun and finished at 1:13:31!  Also, my splits are listed with the several others that are gradually making their way to the coolrunnings page; However, I keep moving down in the rankings haha I liked it better when I was 27th female now I made it to 30!

Best of luck to those of you continuing this season, Go Out Strong!

It usually takes them a few days to get the pictures online.  Once they do so, you should get an email with a link to the photos.

It looks like they've got it together for the most part with the timing issues.

It does look like the timing has been fixed for the most part. There are a few folks without who have pushed me up a few spots. Be interesting to see where it ends up. But I did better than ever before so I'm thrilled. Now it's time to lose weight and train for next season.

I created a race link for this race a couple weeks ago, but it doesn't appear anyone else ever it saw it.  Not sure how it works if signing up for a race after the date it was on, but if anyone wants to write a race report, here is the link to the race:

Hi Everyone and Congratulations!

I was surprised and a bit disappointed that the sand wasn't as hard packed as I believed it would have been. Since I was the 6th wave and running is the slowest of the 3 disciplines, truth be told, it's more like slow, slower and slowest, the sand was soft by the time I cam along and hundreds of people had already trampled upon  it. It's my fault, however, as I should have practiced in the sand.

Then I finally finish and I don't have a race time, egad! The chip people had to review a paper tape and gratefully they were able to find me. I finished in 1:31:18 not bad for an old chubby lady, eh?!

My 45th birthday will be on October 16th and I will be happy to attend my celebratory party with the knowledge that this time last year I was 70 pounds heavier and that in spite of still being 50 pounds overweight, since May of this year, I have completed 6 sprint tri's, 3 5k's and 1 10k, hopefully it's on October 12th. How cool is that?!

Once again to all the triathletes Congratulations and I wish you the best in all your future endeavors, Kudos and Accolades to all of you.
