Age Group Rank = 255/361
Pre-race routine:

Got to site early. Set up my transition, drank some water, and did some stretching. About 30 min. before start ate some Gu chomps. Race started about 30 min. late due to a car accident on the bike course. Several of the sheriffs involved in the race had to tend to the accident.
Event warmup:

Ran a 10-12 min. warm up jog with sweatshirt still on.
Swim
  • 39m 42s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 53s / 100 yards
Comments:

swam pretty well. Could have gone a little faster, but I didn't want to go out to fast and have nothing left for the rest of the race.
What would you do differently?:

I wouldn't do anything differently.
Transition 1
  • 05m 4s
Comments:

Took my time getting from the water to the bike. My heart rate was a little high, and I could have ran more than I walked. I also put sunscreen on. the spray kind.
What would you do differently?:

Run to the bike, learn how to hop on bike and get clipped into pedals instead of stopping and clipping in.
Bike
  • 3h 31m 15s
  • 56 miles
  • 15.91 mile/hr
Comments:

Chain popped off, and I also stopped and had to mix my Gu Brew at the aid stations.

What would you do differently?:

I need to figure out a different way to hydrate. Stopping to mix drinks took about 10-12 min. out of my time. Hydrate more on the bike. I went through 3 bottles of Gu brew and about 4 of my aero drink bottle. Not sure if I needed more than that or not.
Transition 2
  • 05m 18s
Comments:

Felt ok after the bike, I put some more sunscreen on. Not sure why it took me this long in transition. Don't remember it being that long.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 2h 50m 44s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 13m 02s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt good coming out of transition until about the 1/2 mile mark. My race was basically over then, and just had to gut out and finish. I ran 3 telephone poles and then would walk one. I walked thru transition and grabbed water at every one and gatorade every other one. went through every sprinkler that was offered. The heat basically killed my run.

What would you do differently?:

Not sure I could have done anything differently. Other than hydrate a little more on the bike. I also brought a bottle of water with me on the course.
Post race
Warm down:

Not fall down.

Sat on a table right near the medical area and the dry goods area, waiting to stand up and put on my flip flops.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

the heat. and

Event comments:

The race started late due to an accident and nothing the organizers could have prevented.

Great race, Great Volunteers. Awesome spectators.
