Swim
Comments: The swim went okay. I am one of those hated breast strokers so I tend to keep to the outside a bit. Because it is easy to sight I tend to get into a bit of congestion around the buoys and switch to freestyle so as not to kick anyone if possible. I was pleased enough with my time since I don't consider myself a swimmer. Funny thing about my AG- I think half the women around me at the start were named Kathy. Someone would say our name and we would ALL turn around. What would you do differently?: Learn to swim faster with freestyle so my legs would be more rested coming out of the water. Transition 1
Comments: SLOW....But hey its been a long time! What would you do differently?: I should really learn to put my shoes on the clips and get into them while on the bike. Guess I would have to practice that! Bike
Comments: I was happy with my bike. I kept my cadence in the 80-90s most of the time and I was comfortable at my effort level. I am not sure I could have gone much faster. It did start to rain lightly at about 30 minutes in but thankfully the roads stayed pretty dry and the rain let up by the time I was finishing. What would you do differently?: Keep working on power and endurance. I would like to get a new bike and hope that having something where I can get into a more aero position might help improve my speed. Transition 2
Comments: Hey at least it was faster than T1. What would you do differently?: Just move a little quicker maybe. Run
Comments: UGH! I guess that my swim and bike had taken its toll on my right ITB. I have not had any issues since late spring but after only a half mile my right lateral knee was not happy. Sharp pain that was worse with downhills and on the canted roads. I just stuck to my plan of running 4 minutes and walking 1 minute. Scores of folks passed me. Oh well, a HTFU moment (hour) and just got it done. What would you do differently?: I would really like to become a runner! This is just going to have to be the focus of my training this fall and winter. I also think that doing freestyle would put less stress on my knees- so I have another focus for the winter.... Post race
Warm down: My warm down would basically consist of hugging people. Seeing Marianne and fellow BTers at the finish was such a highlight. Visiting with lots of new and old friends. Even the BBQ chicken was good. A great afternoon. What limited your ability to perform faster: Probably my genes- when in doubt blame your parents I say!! No really I think this went well. I have never done an OLY and this was my first tri since 2004. I am happy that I could even do it!! I honestly think that if it weren't for BT and the great people I have met here that I probably would not have done this race. I am very happy to have challenged myself and achieved my goal for the summer. Now about next year.... Last updated: 2009-07-27 12:00 AM

Woke up with the alarm at 5. Had my usual breakfast of steel cut oatmeal, blueberries and walnuts. Black coffee. since I wouldn't be in the water until 8:20 I figured I would have plenty of time to digest. Car and bags were already packed so I was on the road by 5:40. Arrived at the race site about 6:30. Got a great parking spot close to transition.
Picked up my packet and mostly walked around a lot. My last tri was in 2004 so I tried to remember what to do to set up transition. I ran into lots of friends from town and BTers. It was a lot of fun.
