Pre-race routine:

Drive 45 minutes to race site, get packet and set up bike in transition.
Event warmup:

Short swim and a couple of short sprints.
Swim
  • 11m 28s
  • 1 yards
  • 35h 23m 28s / 100 yards
Comments:

Great pace out to turn around buoy, not too much traffic. Big jam up at the buoy. About 1/3 of the way back caught up with the 1st wave. It was packed. Woman to my right doing the backstroke turned over all of a sudden, did a frog kick and hit me in the lip. Fortunately it just grazed me. I then got stuck behind 2 woman doing breast stroke. As I went by I had to grab one's leg to keep from getting kicked. I felt bad about it but didn't have much choice.
What would you do differently?:

Head wide of the last buoy to stay out of traffic.
Transition 1
  • 01m 28s
Comments:

No problems here. There was a 9 year old boy next to me in transition and I had to lift bike over his head. He had a small bike and had to use a bike stand which took up some room. Great kid and fun to watch him race.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 36m 51s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 20.24 mile/hr
Comments:

Good hard ride. The first 1.5 miles were tough since my legs are never loose. Once I warmed up it was a great ride. There were a couple of younger guys I leapfrogged with for most of the race.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 2
  • 01m 2s
Run
  • 28m 56s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 18s  min/mile
Comments:

As usual this is where I lost some time. Run out was okay but I was tired from pushing hard on the bike. Got some energy at the turnaround and kicked into a higher gear (for me). Strong finish.
What would you do differently?:

Train more for the run.
