Age Group Rank = 13/29
Pre-race routine:

up @ 4am to drive the 1.25 hours to the venue..Night before was a little hectic, ended up in the ER with my son afer a bike wreck and a mild concussion.. didn't get home until 10pm got setup as much as possible, then tried to get some sleep. only to be awoken by my cracked tooth that I was getting repaired on Monday... after advil and ice, was able to lay back down about 1am..
Event warmup:

light stretching.. walking around..
Swim
  • 07m 37s
  • 383 yards
  • 01m 59s / 100 yards
Comments:

I think I put myself back too far in the swim, haven't been to sure of my swim performance so i've been conservative when entering an estimated time.. probably passed 6-10 people, lots of choke points at the walls, etc. was probably able to pull a 7 min or little under if I would've been further up.
What would you do differently?:

submit a shorter estimated time.. continue to work on my swim...
Transition 1
  • 01m 38s
Comments:

first time in cycling shoes.. having tri specific shoes definitely helped, came in after a guy who was still wratcheting his down when I left. was able to clip in the right foot without issue, but struggled on the left, not sure what was up.. need more practice..
What would you do differently?:

practice mounts/dismounts.
Bike
  • 47m 45s
  • 15.25 miles
  • 19.16 mile/hr
Comments:

didn't get much bike time in the week before and it showed, not bad considering.. need to spend more time on the bike, but training for a marathon as well so that's my current focus..
What would you do differently?:

practice mounting/dismounting, more time in the saddle
Transition 2
  • 00m 56s
Comments:

out of shoes/helmet quickly and into runing shoes.. yanks make all the difference.. although had to do one twice, cost me a few seconds...
What would you do differently?:

practice more dismounts...maybe riding barefoot eventually..
Run
  • 26m 36s
  • 3 miles
  • 08m 52s  min/mile
Comments:

on start of run thought I had a rock/pebble in my shoe had to stop and get out.. ended up being my road ID that i put in there so as not to lose it when I relaced my shoes.. ooops..
run had some good hillls, couldn't catch my breath early enugh.. had to walk for about 15 seconds to work out a side stitch, but was able to push through it.
What would you do differently?:

not put my road ID in my shoe, but ON my shoe.. maybe start slower out of the gate, think that was the reason for my side stitch..
Post race
Warm down:

stretching, walking around.. eating PBJ sandwhiches..

What limited your ability to perform faster:

i was just tired coming into the race.. events of the day before just wiped me out.

Event comments:

didnt' stick around to see what went on, wanted to get home to check on my little boy..

Good race Derek. This was the 5th time I've run this race and the pool swim is crowded no matter where you start. I was number 104 and put down a 7 swim estimate and swam in 6:34. There were 3 people ahead of me that swam over 10 mins. I saw 1 guy walking and another floating on his back. The run course was new this year and I think a bit less hillier than it has been. Which marathon are you training for? The Tennessee State Parks start their running tour Oct. 10. Could make for some good training days. Are you going to try the Cedars of Lebanon Tri the 12th?
