Subject: Business idea for BT

The other day I was looking something up in my 2008 BT log.  I thought it was very cool to be able to look back thru my old log comments and performance.

So here is a suggestion for BT.  Provide a service, for say a nominal fee of $29.99, where BT will complile a "book" or a diary of sorts from someone's log.  The customer could specify a date range...maybe that corresponds to their IM training or maybe Jan 1 to Dec 31 or whatever.

BT could write some scripts to pull someone's training data as well as their BLOG data, pictures etc and put them all in a PDF file.  The PDF file would include a nice cover page with some neat name like "Rogillio's First Ironman" or "Coach to Triathlon - 2008".  The file could then either be put on a CD and mailed to the customer or printed out, bound and the 'book' mailed to the customer.

I have paper Runner's World logs from 12 years ago and love to browse thru from time to time.  I would love to have a hard  copy of my BT log/blog/training data to look at in my old age...or maybe put in on the coffee table in my LR so show off to my non-tri friends.  :-)

I think you're onto something...That's a pretty good idea!

At least that way, you should share the "training story" instead of just race day. Heck TONS more go into those months leading up to it than just the race day!

Mike, so as not to surprise you, I'm gonna drop this thread into training log support. Mike and Ron will see it pretty quickly there, whereas it may take a minute or two here.

Great idea. All for it.

I think this is a fantastic idea, too! I also like to look back through logs from previous years and see how my training was going and what I was up to. I'm too lazy to keep an actual journal, but I typically post my daily thoughts and activities here... so for all intents and purposes, BT IS my daily journal. I've actually thought before that it would be so neat if I could print off a history of my entries, for future reference/nostalgia... I don't know how feasible it would be, but even just the text and basic workout data would be great, IMO. I would totally buy something like this, maybe on a yearly basis. Anyway, I think it's a great idea - Thanks for suggesting it, Mike!

With all the various ways that you guys have been able to compile charts and tables, it could be really valuable to tailor it to someone's needs.  Say they wanted to see their running progress, you can break out just the running for a certain period and show general trends (like with the route hx thing which is awesome by the way!).  Could be rally helpful to training and coaching.

I'd actually buy that and hand it over to a coach if I got one next season so he could see what I did on my own for a year and make a really personalized plan.  Good idea!

...still hoping for that iPhone app though.  Pain to surf on my iPhone and log workouts, but I still do it sometimes...

You can export your plan data as CSV in Settings. I'm a software developer, maybe I'll see what could be done to make a nicely formatted log.

Anyone with some really good log data want to share their CSV file with me, so I'll have some good test data?

Great idea.  An example of this would be like a MyCanvas book.

I would love to offer up mine as a test run but I have one suggestion--something that my log doesn't cover: whatever you use as a test file I'd suggest it have everything incorporated in it: multiple races with imported csv data from their computer, detailed blogs (i.e. - someone who really takes advantage of the comments section and the various tools therein), a 'planned' log as well as the 'actual' log, nutrition logs, etc.  I'm sure I'm missing some components, but the more that is in the actual training log you use the better you'll be able to determine what to do with the different elements.

I LOVE this idea, looking back and reviewing data is not only informative and a great teaching tool but it's also fun to 'relive' your progress over time, not to mention a great motivator ('holy crap, I could only swim 400m at 2:20 per this time last year?!?').  Get it done, I'll absolutely take advantage of it!
