Pre-race routine:

Listen to Alan moan about his toe. Poor boy. Gout put him out of the race :(
Swim
  • 35m 46s
  • 1900 meters
  • 01m 53s / 100 meters
Comments:

Had a strong swim - hardest part was navigating round the slower swimmers of previous waves. No matter how much I looked up and thought I'll head round them, they always seemed to wander right into my path.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Transition 1
  • 04m 20s
Comments:

Took my time to put jersey and socks on (so glad I did)

What would you do differently?:

Could do transition much faster but cautious about being out on bike for 3hours plus unprepared so for now, happy to take my time
Bike
  • 2h 58m 51s
  • 85 kms
  • 28.52 km/hr
What would you do differently?:

Even though I really wanted to see what I could do on the bike and raced the race as if there wasn't another lap or section I really suffered for going a bit too hard on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 04m 20s
Comments:

Took time again to have half a puree and a drink and a stretch
What would you do differently?:

stretch calves properly. did hip flexors which helped but calves were tight just setting off on the run
Run
  • 2h 25m 49s
  • 21 kms
  • 06m 56s  min/km
Comments:

First lap I was hurting, calves and ankles, second lap I was dying and had to walk most of the last quarter of the run.
Gutted
What would you do differently?:

Due to being very tired following Ripon I missed alot of the training I should have been doing. I knew this going into the race and it really showed on the run. I needed to do more long runs really.
Post race
Warm down:

Cried a bit cos embarrased to cross the line looking crippled.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

lack of training

Event comments:

Absolutely brilliant organisation of the race.
