Subject: RE: What to eat before a 1 pm tri?I had a nightmare before my last (first ever! ) sprint tri in london last month, forgot my kit bag meaning i had to do a 400mile round trip to be able to compete. This and the london traffic (and the fact I had less than 1 1/2 hours sleep ) meant I had no time for breakfast, or a decent lunch. I stopped off at a garage, and bought a Ginsters Southern chicken tortilla wrap. Is was packed with carbs and a fair bit of protein, and gave me just enough fuel to finish the race! No suggesting this is the BEST nutrition, but given the nightmare I had on the day, it worked for me! Your body can only absorb something like 40g carbs in one go, and make sure you eat more than an hour before the race to ensure you don't have an upset belly. I had a carb gel on the bike too, prob not needed for most sprints, but due to my lack of nutrition, i used it. It helped A LOT. It was by powerbar, the caffeine and the carbs made sure I could keep going for the run. Always worth keeping one on the bike, just in case you're feeling a bit wiped out, but make sure you've tried them prior to the big day. Also, have a water bottle on the bike (filled with which ever u prefer, gatorade, lucozade, or water ) as thats the best time to take on fluid. Good luck Let us know how it goes |
