Subject: Raingear...do you wear?

Since I gave my rain jacket to my son for college, I have been looking for a replacement.  I can't seem to find much of anything here in the midwest.  When I speak with store personnel, they say I can either get something waterPROOF which will make me sweat inside or water-RESISTANT and is breathable, but in prolonged exposure to rain, I will get wet from the outside.  Either way it appears I will be wet.  I am familar with gore-tex, but I am looking for a shell that is packable and I can run and ride in it when the weather is not too cold.  The reality here where I live and train is that once it gets so cold that I need a jacket with warmth, it usually isn't raining anymore.  I would like to keep the price down around $80 or so.

What do you folks wear when it is in the 40's-50's and raining for both running and riding?

Any suggestions?

I don't ride in the rain, I may carry a cheap, waterproof shell if there's a chance of rain, but if it's already raining or definitely going to I ride the trainer.  For running I just get wet unless it's below the mid-50's, then I wear a breathable jacket, which doesn't really keep my completely dry, but it does keep me warmer than going without.
