Run
Comments: Eastbound run on a lonely stretch of old Route 66 between Gallup and Grants. Mostly an uphill climb. Ran alongside one of our rookies and discussed life, universe and everything.Traded off carrying the Torch. Temperatures reportedly in the 70s. Transition 1
Comments: No official transition. The next participant was cycling. I changed my shoes and drove support. Stopped for lunch break. Bike
Comments: After break, we continued east on I-40 and later turned back onto Rt. 66. To the relief of the other participants I volunteered to ride up the nine mile hill. Started cramping and had to go a slower pace. Utilized Police escort (well, it is a law enforcement event) and slowed down a lot of truckers and forced them into one lane.(Felt pretty good too.) Back on Rt. 66,I slowed so a second rider could keep up. Post race
Warm down: Drove support. Ate at Sonic. What limited your ability to perform faster: A couple of things which are really non-issues for this type of event; participating in an event of this type three days after competing in a sprint tri, and slowing down for other officers, running with a torch. Event comments: Law Enforcement Torch Run is an event done by law enforcement to raise money and awareness for Special Olympics. We run (and bike) a torch from each corner of the state, and the torches are run into the opening ceremony for the Special Olympics Summer Games, and handed off to a special athlete. A lot of work, but a lot of fun and very rewarding. Last updated: 2005-05-18 12:00 AM

Fueled and stocked support vehicles. Briefed participants. Installed bike racks and helped load up bikes.
First segment was the "one mile walk". Only one participant showed, so I walked with her so it would be a little less strange. Drove support for the first three groups of runners. Stretched a little before my run leg.
