Pre-race routine:

Woke up and drove to the race site.

Event warmup:

Got in the water and did a 1,000 meter warm up. Felt very sluggish in the water at first. Did some short sprints and started feeling good around 500 meters.

Comments:

I was seated #68 on the swim which worried me. When I was registering I couldn't figure out how to put a : between the time, so I had to put an even 5:00 for my time. Which was spot on for what I do, but as we all know... we all lie a little. :)

They put :10 between each swimmer which really helped us not to get bunched up. I only passed 2 people, so that was nice.

Of course, ONE of those people... even though I was tapping his foot, he didn't let me pass at the wall. There is always that one a-hole that doesn't let me pass. Yep. Then I have to muscle by them at the wall.

Overall a solid swim. First in my age group! :)
Transition 1
  • 02m 14s
Comments:

I think I was about the slowest in T1 for my AG. I think it's simply because I don't run fast enough from the pool to my bike. Not to mention it was a really, really long run!
Bike
  • 46m 39s
  • 15 miles
  • 19.29 mile/hr
Comments:

Overall a solid bike. My goal was to NOT get a side cramp on the bike. Goal achieved.

There were some hills on this course, but they were fine. I never felt really strong on them (no hill mojo this year), but I was OK.

The whole ride I played leap frog with a guy who could NOT stay right. He would pass me going down a hill and would just weave all over the lane in front of me. Then I would need to pass him going up a hill and I would have to yell at him to get right. After the 3rd time, I finally said, "Dude, you HAVE to stay right!" Ugh. So annoying.

Transition 2
  • 01m 24s
Comments:

Another slow transition. Yep.
Run
  • 27m 45s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 57s  min/mile
Comments:

Side cramp started .50 into the run. Oh joy. People were kind and gave me tips on how to get rid of it. Of course, they don't know that I've been running with it for 5 years now. HA!

Did what I could out there. Tried to dig deep, but just didn't have the power to keep my per minute mile lower. Was just DONE with the stupid side cramp.

There was a section where we ran through the grass. Annoying. My per minute mile dropped to over 9:00 in that section.

Post race
Warm down:

Stopped and found some shade. It was really hot.

Overall I had a solid race. Compared to years before, I am much faster, thanks to being able to run! Of course, it's not my fastest race this year. And the gals in my AG were fast at this race. Until I can get a 20 mph average on the bike and close to a 8 minute mile on the run, I won't be placing in my AG anytime soon.

Event comments:

Very good race. I'll go back next year.

Nice race and I'm so impressed with your continued improvement on the run.  To have that time while nursing a side stitch just lets everyone know how tough you really are.

Yep; 20 on the bike, sub-8 run, and tidy up those transitions, and you'll be in the money every race.

You can do it.
