Comments:

This was an in water start with the skins going first and wetsuits to follow 2 minutes later. The organizers advised that the would start 2 minutes after the first skin jumped in because of the temperature. Unfortunately because they held people back to allow swimmers time to swimmers to get clear of the boat, a number of people were still on the boat when the horn went off. I was half way to the start when it went off. I don't think this hurt me much. I jumped, took a couple of strokes breaststroke, a couple of water polo freestyle strokes: the horn went off and I started to swim in ernest.

Event comments:

It was sunny on race day. The water was "warm" by Bay standards . The organizers did a test run the day before and advised everyone that times will be fast and the faster swimmers could aim right for the finish. However on race day I kept finding myself off course. I thought it was me, but no matter how many times I made a correction I continued to be off course. When I finished I asked someone if they were having problems with staying on course. Turns out there was a current that day that wasn't present during their test swim.
