Thanks soooooo much for following us!  It helps to know that y'all were out there with our backs.  Race was fun with all the BTers competing and encouraging each other on.

Congrats to all the first timers, too!  Nothing like the first time!

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the kind words.... I dropped out around mile 70 or so of the bike... My swim went bad and I drank a lot of water, was having problems getting my stomach to settle so I was behind in nutrition early on.  My legs just weren't working with me and with the heat and lack of nutrition... I lost any power I had in my legs.    I figured, even though it was hard, to pull out there so I can have another day in the future than get hurt.

Today is hard.  You train a year for a race and it is just gone but without the celebration you hope for in the end.  It feels like what my friend described as the day after Christmas but Santa never showed up at my house.

I will do it again... but not next year... I start nursing school soon.  But I have a score to settle with the bike course.

I'm sooooo proud of everyone who accomplished yesterday and just as proud of those of us who didn't make it.  It was a hard hard day out there.

Someday... someday real soon, I will be an Ironman too.

Mark (tritank) is in!  Congratulations, Mark!!

Artemis, thank you for watching for me to finish. It really makes each of us feel special to be recognized and know that someone is watching for us.

Thanks to all who followed all day.

That was the toughest day ever. The weather was perfect for me. I felt well trained. I thought my nutrition plan was set...but on the bike my stomach decided to rebel. I could not keep calories in me. I was dry heaving and cramping...lucky to keep moving forward at times. Medical people checked on me and let me continue...I finished 9 minutes before the bike cutoff. I didn't think there was any way I was doing the marathon. It is amazing what the mind and body can do...it was like I was on autopilot...I went to transition and just went through the motions and got changed and headed out...saw the family and kept moving. I was actually running (well sort of)...very slowly...I had to actually make my self slow down so I had a chance of holding the pace. I made it to the first aid station and someone said "chicken broth?" and I said hey that might work. So I sipped chicken broth and chewed on ice for the first couple aid stations. Then I started alternating between broth and coke with ice. Then I'd take a little water, then a couple grapes or oranges. Never too much but just little bits. I walked up hills and in aid stations and then when it got dark and I would have trouble seeing the path I would walk so I didn't fall but other than that I jogged. I was able to run the last 2 miles...mostly up hill...and finish with the best feeling ever! I can't believe I did it. I am more proud of perservering through that day than anything I've ever done. I had really wanted to beat my IMKY time of 14:45 from 2007 but I am just happy to be a finisher again.

Ok I found the highlight video at www.ironmancenter.com, but now I can't figure out how to download it, and still don't know where to watch my finish. :/
