Anyone out there doing the Mainiac Tri? Have you done it before? Any recommendations/warnings?

First Tri for me - the more data I can get, the better.

Thanks!

I'll be there.  It'll be my first Mainiac, however I am familiar with the course.  I've ridden the bike route and it's mostly flat.  There's a couple short sections of poor quality pavement, but the rest is good.  I'm hoping for a fast bike on that course.

parking is an issue - goto their official website for details.  they have a satellite parking lot with a shuttle bus to the start/transition area

Did you sign up for the race this year? Would you like to catch up for a ride this week- Wed or TH?  I know a nice 14 mile loop and a nice 20 mile loop in town...

PM if you're interested

Anyone want to ride the bike portion or maybe get an OWS in or maybe both next week sometime?

I'll be there and it's my first tri.  Actually just learned to swim freestyle about 7 weeks ago.  If I get out of the water alive it will be a success for me!  Not really, but the swim is making me anxious.

Has anyone on this thread previously done this one?  It seems the few ocean swims I've done this year have been in incredibly calm water for some reason.  Is the surf pretty calm at this site?

Sounds like from the race site the waters are usually calm. You interested in sneaking in an OWS before the race?

I'd be up for that.  My plan for next week is to take it easy at the end of the week, but either Tuesday or Wednesday I could do starting at 3pm at the earliest.  I know the bike route solid so that would be fine too.  Do you have a wetsuit?

Have a wetsuit, and am riding in the 15.3 mph range but thats by myself had a ride with 2 others and kept up at a higher speed. Just don't want to slow you down since I am brand new but would love to get up on the course.

You don't want to destroy yourself the week of the race.

I don't mind guidedogging the course with you at whatever speed works.  Let me know what u decide.

Getting very excited and nervous...driving down tomorrow am - hope to be at transition around 9a...I will be wearing a black scooby do hat (until the swim) - please introduce yourself. I would love to have someone to babble at/with before the start of the race.

I'm guessing there won't be many scooby doo hatted people, so I'll keep my eye out for ya !

I biked and ran the course on seperate days this week.  The bike starts out flat for the first mile, then there's a few miles of minimal "climbs" and descents, and the final 3 miles or so are pretty much flat or a slight downhill grade.  Feels like there's more downhill overall than uphill.  Could be a bit windy in places too.  The run is nice too.  The first 1/2 mile is rolling, then it's flat for a good 1+ miles, then a little rolly again, and the final 3/4 of a mile there's a good solid downhill followed by a short hill and the run in to the finish.

I picked up my race packet yesterday and the race director suggested that we most likely wouldn't have to run our bikes out/in all the way to the paved road from the transition area, which is around 200 yards or so.  He said most likely we could mount/dismount just outside transition.

Congratulations to all who raced Mainiac....  I thought it was a well organized race w/ plenty of volunteers and we had terrific weather out there.

Don't forget to log your race reports too.... I enjoy reading the experiences, perspectives, and thoughts of others who were there with me!

I saw.  This was my first race where a "professional" took photos.  Glad I didn't have to pay upfront to see the images.  I certainly won't be purchasing any!  My wife snapped a couple, both of which were better than any of these.

The only thing I wanted from my fiancee at the race was a few good pics and def me crossing the finish line. Not to hard to ask for right? Heres the camera, when I come around the corner, point-shoot-repeat. Nope, no picture of me by her, . Instead, for the completion of my 1st tri, beating my goal time, I get a video of the lovely dirt after the finish line. So if anyone wants a reminder of the dirt let me know.

Anyways, I busted her chops a bit, but she didn't like it. So I will be purchasing 1 or 2 of the finish photos. What was everyones bib so I can look you up.

I was #61.  They only had bike pics when I searched, but I was able to find another half dozen or so when I searched the "lost and found" for the race - some exiting the water/running up the beach, the running photos, and the finish line photos

I was very lucky (!) to have my mother-in-law at the start taking tons of pictures of me in a wetsuit. My husband brought the camera which ran out of batteries before I got into T2, but a good friend was also there and took a bunch of good shots. I agree - not too many good pics from capstone, so I am glad I had another source. Now I just need a decent action photo for my avatar.

Bib #265 - plus lots of orphans (again - coming out of the water, number obscured, etc).

Jason - what was your number? (I also have a couple of pictures of dirt if you want to add to your collection ;-) )

What are you all going to do for training this winter? I have no problem running in the snow/ice and can swim at the local Y...I have a trainer (I purchased last year and never set up) for biking, but I'm just not that excited about sitting in the basement for hours looking at all the junk. I don't want to lose any of the base I have put on...

I have a membership at the local YMCA.  I ride the cybex bike, swim in the pool, and log lots of sauna time in the winter months.  Running I'd prefer to be outside, as the treadmill encourages suicidal thoughts to enter my mind after like 10 minutes.

This was my first year, and I've already begun focusing on repeating the same tri's I did to try and crush my 2009 times
