Swim
What would you do differently?: Not step on a huge rock and cut up my foot on the way into my second lap! Transition 1
Comments: No Transition times liste for this race... What would you do differently?: I think I had a solid transition. Not having a wetsuit or speedsuit definitely sped things up, but definitely made the swim take longer (despite lack of training). Bike
Comments: Laps 1 and 2 I treated as a warm up "spinning" in the small ring, but with the flat course and race wheels, spinning was about 22mph. Lap 3: Nutrition at the beginning of this lap. Pushed a little harder big gear on the back stretch. Lap 4: solid mixed between easy big gears and hard small gears Lap 5: continued in the big gear at 24-25mph Lap 6: big gear on the front, spinning in the back stretch, 2nd round of nutrition. Doubted the course and my lap counting, asked a race official about the course being short, she suggested another lap...I wrongfully listened. Lap 7: Caught up with Derek on the front stretch, slowed down and asked about the distance, confirming what I had done I took off and pushed through the rest of the "penalty lap" What would you do differently?: Not do an extra lap on the bike course. It wasted energy, cost me 10-12 minutes, and cost me even more on the run. Transition 2
Comments: No T2 times either, but I didn't waste anytime What would you do differently?: What!!! No water exiting T2...This is going to be a long run... Run
Comments: It was damn hot! With only two water stops and my extra lap in the bike throwing off my nutrition I was not in good shape. I walked through the aid stations in the first lap to load up on as much fluid as I could, but it was not enough to cool me down. In the second lap I took 2 or 3 walk breaks, I definitely could have pushed through, but after the mistake on the bike, I was more or less mentally out of the race so I just slowed down and enjoyed it instead of killing myself. What would you do differently?: Obviously the bike mistake has a big impact, but more importantly the lack of one more aid station and no cold refreshments played a big role. Needing to train more of course helps to. As much as I may be complaining I still had fun. But I would be lying if I said I didn't want to get back to where I was a year ago... Post race
Warm down: Walking around the race site looking for my racing buddies, lots of fluids and a complimentary massage!! What limited your ability to perform faster: Cutting my foot on a rock in the swim. An extra loop on the bike course. Heat and nothing to cool down my body. Event comments: The organisers need to make a few adjustments on the course, but as I said...I still had fun. Racing is like sex, if it's good, it's really good. If it's bad, it's still pretty good :) Last updated: 2009-07-19 12:00 AM

What's that? I started this race dry.
No real warmup. With the number of wave starts there wasn't much room to do a swim warmup (okay there was, but I didn't), but I definitely wasn't going to run or bike before the swim.
