Pre-race routine:

Drive up, On the road by 4:15. It's about a 100 mile drive. Goes quick.
Event warmup:

Swim... some quick short intervals to get loose. Also ran up the hill out of transition (barefoot) to get the HR going.
Swim
  • 28m 7s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 43s / 100 yards
Comments:

Good swim. Swallowed a lot of lake water for some reason. Not big gulps, just a swallow here and there. I was faster on this swim than I anticipated.
What would you do differently?:

I like this swim course a lot. It just has a good flow to it. Would do nothing different except the usual. Swim more in training.
Transition 1
  • 01m 44s
Comments:

Average T1. I had a pretty neutral spot in Transition, so that was a bonus.
What would you do differently?:

Start bike with shoes on bike.
Bike
  • 1h 18m 38s
  • 26.1 miles
  • 19.92 mile/hr
Comments:

I was not happy with my bike at all. I was not mentally racing. For some reason I had this idea that I should hold back a little. In hindsight, that idea was all wrong. I had to base to push much harder and still get a strong run in. So I rate this as poor. I took my feet out of my shoes about a mile out, and that worked out great. I hope to do that in all future races. I dropped my chain and lost ~30 seconds overall.
What would you do differently?:

umm.. race?
Transition 2
  • 00m 55s
Comments:

excellent T2. Can squeeze some seconds out of it, but overall, satisfied.
What would you do differently?:

revist the whole putting on socks for the run thing. Maybe get some tri specific running shoes with a liner. Without socks I'm in the 30's for this T and definitely one of the fastest.
Run
  • 46m 15s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 27s  min/mile
Comments:

I love this run course. It is hard on a lot of people, but my Tuesday night training gives me a decided advantage. I can run it faster. After all, I am not in 'race' shape. My last race of any kind was in Mid July.
What would you do differently?:

get back to 43
Post race
Warm down:

water, rest, root.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not in 'race' shape. Lack of speed work, and maybe being sick a week back.

Event comments:

Excellent race. Great shout out to Henry Forrest at the beginning by the race director. Tugaloo was his last race attended last year. I will be back, but not next year.. I'll be in Madison.

Great race...your strong run is your major asset in these races.  TNR would do me some good.  It was good catching up with you at the race.  I wanted to catch you after the race, but my body had other ideas.  you can read my RR and laugh.

Good luck and will see you at TNR in Oct.

Nice job! This course scares me In my wild imagination, this course is really hard. So for not being "race ready" you pretty much killed this. Your swim was awesome and your run was great. The bike, okay we all know you can do a little better but hey 2 out of 3 ain't bad. (I hate that saying, btw) lol.
