Sunny
Total Time = 3h 20m 23s
Overall Rank = 87/109
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 9/13
Pre-race routine:

woke up, forced down 1/2 a bowl of oatmeal, stopped for coffee, and got to the race and did all the required - chip, marking, set up transition, hit up porta potty
Event warmup:

none...never...i race like i train?
Swim
  • 37m 42s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 31s / 100 meters
Comments:

the first leg of the swim was rough - pretty tiring to fight that tide. as i coasted along the second leg i seemed to drift pretty far from the buoys, but once i cut in and turned left for the last stretch, i really got down! i popped my head up to sight and there were no swimmers anywhere near me - i was about 20 yds to a buoy and they were all getting on the ferry or something, way off course. swim was tough, but i felt good.
What would you do differently?:

figure out how to get out of that shallow water faster. learn how to draft.
Transition 1
  • 03m 42s
Comments:

long run in the grass to transition, and someone in my row had their transition area set up all across the space between racks. i kicked their bucket out of the way so i would have somewhere to roll my bike out.
Bike
  • 1h 26m
  • 24.85 miles
  • 17.34 mile/hr
Comments:

had a goal of 16 mph, came in at 16.4. had a really comfortable ride, almost didn't want to stop!
What would you do differently?:

just need more time on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 02m 35s
Comments:

OH EM GEE I LEFT MY SHOES TIED IN TRANSITION. this was my worst transition everrrrrrrrr. standing their like a dump untying my shoes so i could get them on. wow.
What would you do differently?:

UNTIE MY SHOES.
Run
  • 1h 10m
  • 6.21 miles
  • 11m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

felt good the whole time. foot went numb around mile 2 but didn't matter. no asthma issues, no cramps, no problems at all. saw kathy and lisa from my church about 200 yards before the finish chute and that REALLY gave me some kick. ran into judi (queenzipp) like a dozen times on the run.
What would you do differently?:

nothing. it was a GREAT 10K for me. and my first ever, ha, i picked a weird place to do that.
Post race
Warm down:

some kid in the finishing chute handed me an iced water and a icecold wet towel. i wanted to marry him. i just stretched a little and watched the awards.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

my sneakers. idiots in transition. swimming? never thought i would say that.

Event comments:

i had a blast on this race. never felt tired, never had asthma issues, finished the whole thing super strong. i am so geared up for the shamrock half and a HIM this time next year. i felt GREAT racing this - my training was right on for a comfortable race. plan to push it a little now that i KNOW i can do this!

You could run a lot faster if you didn't keep running into other racers. It has to kill your momentum. The swim is full contact not the run. Did you at least apologize to QueenZipp??

Great job on your first Oly! Keep up the good work meh

Great job on your first Oly. I wish I could have been there for my first also. Hopefully next year I'll be there. Get some speed laces and never tie/untie your shoes again.

Dano

Are you going to sign up for the Richmond sprint? Last race of the year. It is fun.

Congrats on your first Oly!  Next season you need speed laces, that way you can't leave your shoes tied in transition.  Nice times as well!

i'm not fast, but i did what i wanted.  i keep telling myself i want speed laces and never buying them.  i suck.  my T2 is ALWAYS horrible.  my T1 is pretty tight though - next year - flying mount and dismount!

Awesome!  Good job with the prep work.  Too bad about the laces... at least you had your insoles with you though... unlike me.  Ugh!

One word - Yankz.  No more worries about shoelaces!

I would have done the exact same thing regarding the transition hog, too.

Great job, Lady Swole.
