TBriggs sent me this link today. Glad to have a tune up early since Lonestar will be my first race since 2007 (I have two more kids in my house somehow since then.)

sweet, thanks posting this.  if i'm in town, i'm definately doing it.   they did a great job with bridgland as a new race so i'd support any new race they put on in the future.

that oly swim looks pretty sweet.  definately not for the faint hearted though.

The timing relative to Lonestar is what appeals to me most.

Glad to hear they put on a good race elsewhere too... that's always a plus.

Unfortunately with 5 kids I don't have a lot of disposable income.  This year I did 2 tri's two weeks apart but my season was shorter.  Next year I'd like to start earlier and maybe do one event per month.

I will likely choose one of the two for my first Olympic but now I'm not sure which one.

The fact that they will be on the same weekend in 2011 like Smillford said is CRAZY!

Which "next year" are you talking about? 2011?

Hey this does look good... I'm looking at Lonestar next spring to kick off my big comeback year,  but.... I"m thinking of this as a prep for Lonestar.. is it a really a qualifier for "esape from the big prision that I can't spell" race

Keri - if you are choosing a first (only 1) Oly... I would probably go with Lonestar.  Depending on the marketing of Gateway to the Bay (being an Alcatraz qualifier), this may be a tougher crowd to race with... Some really fast guys like fatty will be representing his sponsor OUL... ain't that right buddy?  Lonestar is a great family friendly, established race...

BTW, You are not fully populated!  Location: Brother's Pizza - you know it! lol!

ALRIGHT!  Which one, Gunspoint?  A few of us BT'ers meet at the one at Hwy 6 & I-10 once (or five times) a week.

It's an Alcatraz qualifier, but it looks like you have to win your AG or overall to qualify.  The funny thing is, and in major contrast to the Kona lottery, it's relatively easy to get into Alcatraz through their lottery!

I agree.  I think the Gateway Oly would be a bit too intense for me.  Maybe I'll do the sprint and LS Oly as Fatty suggested.

I have a sitter for this Tuesday.  Brothers anyone???

does this race fill up pretty quick?  i don't want another repeat of the houston marathon and get screwed becuase i waited to sign up 2days after it opened.

it won't sell out like the marathon did.  i can't remember if any of the three races at lone star sold out last year but i just checked at the 1/4 IM thread from this year and the RD posted on 11 feb it was 3/4 full.  if that helps....

Thanks for the info John - that will help the budget to be able to wait a couple of weeks - registering this late for the US Open Olympic has let the price run up to $150...  Luckily I think I have a $20 coupon code for it!  I didn't want a repeat of the Houston Marathon either - waiting one day was too long...

yeah now worries.  speaking of budgeting, you probably saw my post on the mg...you can't book a hotel at moody gardens online now but if you call there you can.  i did yesterday, same rate as last year, 159.
