I'm thinking about doing the Cedar Beach Tri as my last tri of the yr (it looks like registration is still open). Has anyone done it before and is anyone doing it this yr?

I was thinking of doing it too but it's so late in the season. I'm still up in the air on it.

from the sounds of it the swim is pretty hard if the waves are high.  The rest seems ok..

My guess would be low to mid 60's.  I did the Mightyman sprint in Montauk  first weekend in October last year and it was about 62 or 63 degrees.  Not sure if the location on the island makes a difference though.

Can i do it in a sleeveless ?  This would only be my 3rd race and i would love to get another one under my belt before the season ends.

I did it last year with a sleeveless - its "tolerable" if anything it will make you swim faster .  If you don't like swimmig in cold water then I would recommend borrowing a long sleeve one or renting one. Last year there was alot of chop in the water so be prepared for that as well. I thought the bike was pretty hilly as well but that might because I'm a bike wimp.

Last years swim was BRUTAL.  If you heard about the swim at the Rhode Island HIM this year, the swim last year was identical.  White caps and huge swells.  But there's just a good of chance that it can be very calm.  They shortened the swim (which SUCKS IMO) to a 1/2 mile from 3/4.

The Bike course is decent and very hilly, with a bombing long descent at the end, and I'm very partial to this bike course and swim because I've been training here for two years now; I also like the race organizers and am affiliated with them through my Tri team ... but for me, it's just a lot of money for such short distances.  I'm also racing the Montauk HIM a week prior.  I did the same last year, and then raced this Sprint a week later and it sucked cause I was not even close to recovered, and dozens of people passed me who would never do so on a normal day.  But whatever.

If you don't mind paying 95 bucks for a Sprint distance race, then I would recommend it.  If I Recover better from Montauk (which this year it'll be my 5th HIM as opposed to only my 2nd last year and I've been recovering faster and faster now) I might -- might do it again this year.

I did Montauk last yr and Iron Clad in a sleeveless and both were around 60.  If you very worried about it you can buy speed sleeves from QR.  IMO they're pretty good.
