Subject: RE: Pool etiquette finally breached... mrbbrad - 2009-10-13 8:15 AM Well it finally happened to me too. Show up after work at LA Fitness. It's after 5:00 and the aqua fit ladies start at 6:00. 4 lanes, all but one lane has two people. The guy in the single lane was doing butterfly. Great. On the way back he does backstroke. Ok, he's mixing up his set. I can work with that.
I stand at the very edge of the pool looking right down at him as he does his flip turn. Nothing. Ok, he didn't see me. I sit on the edge of the pool, feet in the water off to one side. he comes back down to the wall, does his flip tune and keeps going. Ok... did he not see my feet in the water? I move closer to the middle, still sitting on the edge with my feet in the water. He comes back again (I have now waited 150 yards worth of his set). He does his flip turn again and keeps going. WTF? I jump in and watch as he goes down the lane and flips again at the far end. He seems to be keeping to one side so I head out. We pass in the lane. No problem. I do my open turn at the far end and see he has stopped. Rest set maybe. I get to the near wall, do my open turn, we make "eye" contact and I head back.
As I turn to breathe he splashes water right in my face. He had great timing and great aim. He must be practiced at this. I stop and walk back the few feet to the wall and "politely" ask him what his deal is. He says he doesn't mind splitting but I should let him know. He claims to have not seen me, then switches his story to not stopping because he was in the middle of a set. So which is it, I ask, did you not see me or did you just not feel like stopping. Mumble, mumble, mumble from him and I say let's just split the lane and we agree. How nice of him to agree to split "his lane" with me. What a tool. If I'm in the middle of a set and someone jumps in my lane, I don't stop. I just move to one side and make it understood that I see them. However if someone had splashed water into my mouth intentionally while I was swimming as happened to you, my membership would be gone as a huge can of whoop arse would be opened up on that guy. I have been swimming too long to deal with the crap! I am very helpful most of the time, I explain basic edicate at the pool to clueless people and help people with there strokes if they ask. If the pool gets crowded and we have to circle swim then usually people start talking and you get the faster swimmers together in the same lanes. We also try and co-ordinate sets and keep them short, so we don't have as many issues. |
