Run
Comments: Oops went off too fast as usual first mile 7:17. Did finish pretty strong though. What would you do differently?: Not go off so fast. (fat chance of that) Sun decided to come out part way round it felt rather hot. Should have taken liquid with me Transition 1
Comments: Perfect. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: Climbing up the first steep hill I got out of my seat and changed gear accidentally. The wrong way. I had to get off and run my bike up to the top of the hill. While 1/3 of the course was tailwind correspondingly 1/3 was a headwind. This was very tough. Kudos to the local police forces though. All major road juctions we crossed had police on them and traffic was stopped for us. Excellent! What would you do differently?: Get a new bike Transition 2
Comments: Got to my bay and some bastard had taken my space. I wasted anything up to 30 seconds to rack my bike and go back to where it should have been to pick up my running hat and get a swig of gatorade. I also forgot to take my Powergel in all this which was to have repercussions later What would you do differently?: I would have removed the person who stole my space's bike and thrown it away. Run
Comments: I started off pretty well. I even passed a few slower runners. Then about half a mile from the finish I bonked. It was then I realised that I had forgotten to take my second Gu. Curses! Nothing to do but grit my teeth and bear it. What would you do differently?: Taken that Gu Post race
Warm down: Stretching and a cool down jog. What limited your ability to perform faster: The wind was very hard in places. The T2 debacle made me forget my second Gu which meant I bonked Event comments: Excellent race organisation. Excellent post race food. Several tousand dollars worth of equipment up for raffle. Superb. Would I do it again? Probably not. Not until I become a better hill climber. Last updated: 2005-01-25 12:00 AM

Saturday: Drove down to pick up my race packet and check out the bike course. Good job I did too. That is one hilly course. I don't think there was a level 1/4 mile anywhere. Road surface is a mix. There is some very good level freshly tarmaced surface. But also some sections that are in quite bad shape. Made a mental note of those
Bad nights sleep.50 minute drive to race site. Go there in good time to pick a nice end of row site for my bike. Loosened up with some stretches and a jog. to check out the steep hill that you run up at the finish of both run legs. Something just didn't feel right while running. perhaps it was the shortness of sleep
