Total Time = 3h 02m 42s
Overall Rank = 413/800
Age Group = 35-40
Age Group Rank = 16/39
Pre-race routine:

Had a bagel early, prepped my transition area. Talked to other athletes. Waited for the tide to come in.
Event warmup:

Got into the water, very smart move. It was cold. Buoy temp was 58 degrees. Swam until my I was comfortable putting my face in the water without it going numb. Got out and did get a little cold waiting, but I am glad I got out there.
Swim
  • 31m 54s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 56s / 100 yards
Comments:

I felt good about this swim, it is the best swim I have had in a triathlon yet. I drafted for the first time, I didn't stop once during the swim except to quickly reset once or twice.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really.
Transition 1
  • 02m 28s
Comments:

Good transition, I think it could have been faster though.
What would you do differently?:

Not dottle so much...
Bike
  • 1h 29m 56s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 16.58 mile/hr
Comments:

I wanted to be 9 minutes faster on this part, but I feel I attacked this as hard as I could. It took me a few minutes to recover from the swim, and the hills start right away. Great cheering section on the sidelines.
What would you do differently?:

More hill repeats in training, and also more swim/bike bricks in training.
Transition 2
  • 01m 13s
Comments:

This transition went well.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 57m 14s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 09m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

This run started out tough for me. I had a pretty bad cramp in my side. My legs felt OK, my feet were cramping some too. After about 2 miles, I found my stride, the cramps subsided, and things went better. By mile 4 I was feeling good. I ran the last two miles like I wanted to run the whole race. Finished strong. But, I am pleased with my time and pace. Great crowd support.
What would you do differently?:

More bike/run bricks in training, more hill repeats and interval training. I wouldn't change anything on the actual run.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank beer and walked around.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I think if I did more interval training on the bike and run I would have been faster.

Event comments:

I love this race and will do it again next year. It is challenging, well organized, and fun. Free beer at the end is cool. I love the deep water start for the swim, and the bike and run are good and challenging. There is really good crowd support for this race. Like the dog tag finishing medal.

Course: I loved this course. I felt the sighting was OK, there could have been a few more guide buoys, but I had not problem seeing my line really. I think the water was colder coming into the beach then when further out in the ocean, but maybe I am crazy.

Course: Course was a lollypop course. Very hilly - rolly steep hills the whole course. Pretty darn windy. A few places I had problems with traffic, cars were not able to pass bikes and it slowed me down some, but I think we are talking like 2 minutes maybe. Great challenging course. Some sections were rough pavement with potholes, but these were marked with caution.
