Start further ahead to avoid slower swimmers, better navigation, better pacing and form.

Not bad considering my first time and that my right calf became enflamed at about 1/3 of the way through. Had to stop and stretch, then continue at a limp. The calf finally improved toward the end, but definitely was a large factor in the race.
What would you do differently?:

This, in spite of my sore calf, was probably my best leg of the race. If I can finally get past this problem, I think I can do well in this leg.

Warm down:

Barely stayed on my feet.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Sore leg mostly, plus inexperience (first time triathlete). Need to improve my swimming and navigating. I could improve the bike leg with better equipment such as a faster bike and "clip less peddles" since I was just riding in my running shoes. Also need to improve transition times. Fairly good conditioning for the first time but I can improve that considerably for next time.

To get a time of 31 on that bike course with the rain we had, and on what you admit is a less than ideal bike -- that's a very very strong performance.
