Comments:

First 200 yds felt great. I was passing some folks, swimming around them. Breathing was working. Unfortunately I veered a little off course. Apparently my stroke is uneven as I started turning to the right. I was not sighting as I should have, just swimming. When I looked up I was perpendicular to the course and had to make a hard left to begin to angle back on course. Fought this the whole race. It made me a little paranoid so I would stop, breasts stroke and sight and then go back to normal freestyle. Finished swim without feeling gassed!
What would you do differently?:

Work on sighting - remember to sight. While my time was the same as the 750 OWS on July 4th. I felt stronger and was able to go run afterwards. I was sucking wind bad in July. I felt like I could have probably have done another lap, but luckily didn't have to.
Transition 2
  • 01m 51s
Comments:

Got out, lightly jogged up the hill. Put on shoes and socks. Took too long to dry feet off. Could have pushed it more.
What would you do differently?:

Could have pushed it more here. Must run without socks - gotta toughen it up.

Comments:

Paced too fast coming out which caused me to hit a couple of walk breaks up the steepest hills. Felt good, no problems with shins or calves. I like my new shoes better than my old ones
Still PR'ed a 5k by 3 minutes -even after the swim!
What would you do differently?:

Not bike/run brick the day before. I could feel a little fatigue in my legs.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around for awhile. Packed my transition up - much eaier without a bike! Did normal stretching routine. Added in anew calf stretch. I will try it for the next couple of weeks. Ate a bagel. Hung around to pick up my silver medal for 2nd in AG. Always helps to have a shallow field!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Sighting on the swim. Running pace. Also, trained through the race.

Event comments:

Swim time was off by 3 minutes according to my watch. I changed the time in this report, it would have been off for everyone, so placings were unchanged.
