Columbia Triathlon Association
Total Time = 2h 40m 58s
Overall Rank = 101/428
Age Group = 50-54
Age Group Rank = 5/32
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 5, ate and drove to transition. Set up, drank fluids and introduced myself to Rick (aka Daremo).
Event warmup:

Mile walk to swim start.
Swim
  • 27m 18s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 40s / 100 yards
Comments:

Decent swell and chop. Bouys close to surf break. Bilateral breathing.
What would you do differently?:

Thought it was a better swim than 7th. Didn't see anyone in front when I got out of the water. Only foorsteps were from Elite group...hmmm.
Transition 1
  • 03m 23s
Comments:

Got to get rid of those socks and learn to start with shoes clipped in. Goal for winter. Otherwise good.
Bike
  • 1h 15m 51s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 19.66 mile/hr
Comments:

Good bike, crawled my way up to 2nd. Cadence was a little higher than planned, maybe headwind on return?
What would you do differently?:

not sure at this point. Another cog down on rear cassette (is that higher or lower gear?) and lower cadence????
Transition 2
  • 01m 45s
Comments:

Pretty smooth.
What would you do differently?:

not too much.
Run
  • 52m 44s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 29s  min/mile
Comments:

Happy with 8:30 pace which was a nice improvement, but not good enough to go from 2nd to 5th in the run. Need to get into the low 8's or high 7's?
What would you do differently?:

train more on the run, less on the swim and bike.
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed some fluids, went back to finish to chear my nephew in. Met the wife and back for a shower and ride home. Well, stopped by Starboards for bloodymary and burger before the ride home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Wrong gear on bike, legs felt a bit heavy towards the end. More running.

Event comments:

Very well organized. Great course control on the ride. Nice weather helped!
