I just went to the 5430 website and saw a message saying that registration for the Boulder tri series opens on Oct.1!!! I didn't do the Boulder long course tri this year b/c I did Harvest Moon. I did the sprint and peak, but probably won't do those again next summer. However, I was thinking about doing the 70.3 instead of Harvest moon. Do you think now that it's an actual "ironman" event that it will sell out quickly??? I mean, do you think I should register for it on the first??? Is anyone else doing it next summer?

I hope to race it again next summer I am sure it will gain some more attention due to ironman. I hope it does not sell out too fast.

I am playing with the idea of doing this race next summer. It would be my first 1/2 IM (yikesTongue out)
I would love to hear what people who have done this race think of it. I hear the run is flat but totally in the sun.  (I like flat).  I have been checking both the 5430 website and the ironman site and haven't seen anything more about an Oct. 1st sign up other then the sign on the 5430 site.

I'm planning to sign up for this one - Actually had the idea in January of this year.
I'm thinking it'll fill pretty quickly given the new ownership...

I will most likely sign up for this as my first 1/2 ironman next year.  i'm guessing it will be a popular race with both the words 'ironman' and 'boulder' in the title

Has there been confirmation they will keep the course the same?

No saying what, if any changes they'll make, but the 5430 version was a great race.  Well organized and a good course.  The bike course is rolling but fast and the run course is exposed (ie HOT!!) but mostly on dirt roads so a tad easier on the legs.

In the past I don't think the Long Course has closed out until maybe June or July.  It's possible it'll sell out faster under the 70.3 brand but I'd be very surprised if it sold out on the first day.  I think the altitude scares away some people from out of state.  Then again, the Clearwater spots might attract more.

It was a good race. If they keep the same course, the bike is rolling but not too difficult. Some would even say the bike course is fast. The run actually does have a couple decent hills in the first couple miles of each loop. It's all out in the open and can be very hot depending on the weather.

I may or may not do the race next year. I won't be registering until next spring. If it's sold out by then - so be it. There are other races. I'm not about to cave into the IM mindset of registering almost a year in advance of a race and then hope I'll be healthy. If I can't get into an event by registering a few months out then I have no use for it. If that means I never get to do an IM branded race then I'm OK with it. They're not the only game in town and their race isn't likely to be any better than the 5430 has been.

I'd rather support the local RDs rather than Ironman -- and pay lower registration fees.  Back to Harvest Moon for me next year.

I would like to make this my first Tri, but I think I'll at least wait to see what the registration fee and course are like.

I'm with you there, Susan.  Although I really wanted to do 5430 Long Course in 2010.  So we'll see, I'm not going to jump through hoops to get a slot in an "Ironman" branded race.

Here is the latest about "Ironman 70.0 Boulder"

Is this the same course as the 5430 course?

Yes.  The description is exactly the same as the 5430 Long Course.  I need to do a HIM distance next summer but haven't decided which one.  Has anyone done the Mountain Man Half in Flagstaff?

I'm going to do Harvest Moon again.  I've heard the bike course is more challenging at HM compared to 5430... IM Boulder... (whatever we're going to refer to it locally as).  Plus, since I did HM this year, I want to do it again next year so I have a better comparison on my progress from one year to the next. (Granted weather will be different, but the course will still be the same so it's a better comparison).

Oh, and it's IM Boulder has finally made it onto the IM list of HIMs.

Series price went up to $325 if you register by the end of 2009.  Registration opens tomorrow.  Good news: they're continuing with TriSustainablity.  Probably no free Avery beer after tho

yeah, $300 for the series isn't too bad. 2009 is too early for me to sign up for races in 2010 though.  And $200 for the Half IM is a little steep for me...I think it was $150 last year. And no beer!! IF I do a 1/2 in 2010 it will probably be Harvest Moon.  It's a well run event, close to home and cost less.

$325 for 3 races....including a 70.3 is pretty good for me.    i'll more than likely sign up for the series before the year is out.

OK, so $325 for three races isn't bad. But I love the Without Limits folks. How much of a gap is there between IM Boulder and HM? Maybe just fewer, but tougher races for this old body next year.

$250 for Florida HIM, $200 for Boulder.  I gguess if I didn't live here, and train on the course on the weekends, I'd be more game.  Then again $325 for the entire season is pretty darn good.

Without limits did a great job with Harvest Moon.  If only mother nature would cooperate.

Sprint is the same weekend as Buffalo Creek XTERRA and Father's day.

Looks like I'll wait a year for the series to see if the transition bugs are all worked out.

I'm kindof torn about doing it this summer. I did the sprint, the peak, and then Harvest Moon for my first HIM. One thing I didn't like about the 5430 series was the fact that you had to go to Boulder the Sat. before for packet p-u. Kindof an inconvenience to go up there. My husband and boys ended up just renting a room Sat. and staying up there through Sunday after the race, but it's pricey when you add it all up! Now that I think about it, I think I'm actually going to skip the series and do other tris that I haven't done yet. I love how many different tris there are in this state, so it would be fun to try them all out. Like others have mentioned, I don't really feel the need to do a branded "70.3" race. So, I will probably do Harvest Moon again b/c it's smaller, closer, and I already know the course!

Can anyone chime in about the Boulder course?  I am thinking about doing my first 70.3 and while I know there is mixed feelings about the change in director/management,  I would be curious to hear what people think about the course. I know the run has no shade and has a few hills?  What is the bike course like?   I don't know if there really is an answer to this and it really depends on the person but I will ask it anyway.  Would it be a good course for someone's first HIM?
Thanks!

Yea, I wish they would move it up a few weekends.  September is so dicey for weather as it is...
