losta - 2009-10-24 8:38 PM Did my running session on the treadmill today it was easier on the knee. Have a good weekend everyone! Tomorrow night will be the last weekly update before the challenge concludes next weekend. Please update the team google doc by 9PM EST if you can.

My totals are updated. The run today put me over 100% so that's all I can contribute to our monthly overall.

Keep it up Pumpkins, one more week!

HAHA yes I would have had to buy the bar a round.... Coming into to T1 I heard some good laughs when I pulled the kilt off and had my blue tri shorts underneath for the bike.

Baowolf - 2009-10-24 6:00 PM Long weekend so far.  I drove down lastnight and camped for $10, last of the big spenders.  As the race was about to start everyone lined up and it occured to me that for this race I should line up at the FOP istead of the MOP... ops and the gun went off.

I got up near the front and just stayed there the entire race was cool.  At about mile 5 I got about a tablespoon of sand and small rocks in my left shoe at a thigh deep river crossing and well that is where they stayed for the next 13.6 miles.  Oh m gosh the hills.  I could have really done without that last 1300 foot climb at mile 15.  Mr. Garmin says I had close to 8000 feet of climbing in the 30k (18.6 miles or whatever).

I turns out I got 2nd place in age group and third place overall with a 20 minute PR over last year.  Yay!  Too bad the only guy in front of me in my age group won the entire race.  Oh well huge improvement of like 1:07 per mile pace or some such.  It also puts me at 108.5/110 miles per the month, so no problem finishing that off next week.  Sooo odd to actually podium something.  I went out hard and just held it, well until that last hill, I ended up using a run walk alternation climbing that beast it was sooo steap, 1300 feet climbing in like 1 mile or so.

Anyway keep on running pumkins.  I'll get a more offical RR up once they post the offical times.

Tod use a marathon stick on those shins, ice daily and go lite on the run for a few days, at minimum low intensity and low distance.  They should clear up in 1-2 weeks with some lite running.

Great job on the race!!!  Sounds like it was really tough!

Another run today on the treadmill, much easier on the bad knee. I think that gives me 100% but I'll get at least one or two more in. Too bad you can't count 110% like on other challenges. Dee is a tough cookie.

If I raise my goal it won't affect the challenge. It is really a way to challenge yourself but I guess some people aren't too good at estimating their time/effort/abilities so we have a few that are dragging us down.

Well, the point of the challenge *is* to challenge yourself. (At least, that's what I think the point is.)

So, if you've already hit your goal, then raising it will make you continue to challenge yourself.

As for others, not everyone will reach 100%. (After all, they're trying to challenge themselves.) Yes, in some cases, they didn't estimate well. Or maybe their goal was ambitious, and they *did* push it as far as they could. And, for others, "life happened," and they didn't get in the workouts they'd planned on doing....

But if you figure there's the same mix across all teams, it evens out in the end. All the teams will have people who hit 100%, and people who didn't come anywhere close to it.

Sometimes, having a team behind you helps - in that you don't want to let your teammates down, so maybe you'll work harder to reach your goal. That's why I put everyone into teams.

Yes, the winning team gets rewarded, and the losing teams get punished. But the punishment/rewards aren't "life changing." They're just signature line additions and/or avatar changes. Heck, in my challenges, the avatar changes aren't even overly embarrassing! (I'm not like Cat, who makes people post pictures of themselves in swimsuits. LOL)

But I go back to this: The point of the challenges, as I see them, is to challenge yourself, to keep yourself motivated, and to encourage others to reach their own goals as well.

(Edited to remove silly typos!)

I get to taser you.

Oh wait.... That wasn't it.

OK, copied and pasted from the original sign-up thread:

The winning team(s) will display a signature line: "My team won the Annual Halloween Run Challenge!"

All other (losing) teams will display an avatar with a "Running theme." (For example: You running, your shoes, your treadmill, the route you normally take when you run, etc.)

Avatars and signature lines will be displayed for the month of November. After that, it's your choice whether to leave it, or remove it.

I don't think he has a pool.  I think it is a swimspa.  But the winning team might still come pee in it.

And I don't have an avatar because I don't know how to put one there.  I also don't have one because I don't particularly want one, which is why I never learned how to put one there.  So, folks, can we please all get to 100% (and yes, I know I am slightly behind as well), so that I don't have to learn how to have an avatar?  Horrors.  What if I had a picture of me running?  People would leave BT in droves.

Hey team,

I apologize.... I didn't update my miles before Sunday! Which put me down %-age wise a little bit...

Short run today because...... Guess what? I HAD A KID HOME SICK AGAIN TODAY!!! I mean, I love my kids, and it's great to have them around, but this is getting really old....

My son's strep throat his back. He finished his antibiotic on Friday, and by Sunday night it was back. The doc thinks he's one of the "outliers" who needs a longer course of antibiotics than most. Great.... He really doesn't need to miss any more school right now, either! At least I got him back into the doc quickly, and back on antibiotics, so he should be back at school tomorrow or Wednesday......

Most of all this should be fun! I don't want anyone to feel bad if they didn't meet their goals (or didn't get to update quick enough).
I think most people made great effort and reading about everyone's training and racing is so inspiring.
What I like best about the challenges is the interaction with other BTers.
So lets have fun and do some running along the way!

I don't want to pee in Baowolf's Swimspa, but I do want to swim in it! It looks really cool.

As for the avatar penalty, it could be an avatar of your running shoes. Or your running route. It doesn't have to include you or anyone else in it. (But you may not want to participate in one of Cat's swim challenges. LOL)
