We may have met them. Was one named Kevin? They rode it twice and then Kevin ran 4 miles. He is 8 years younger than me, but even though this was a scouting ride, that was a little demoralizing.

Nope, Paul and Greg, rode it once, then ran it entirely.

I just mapped Pinehurst and Triangle. They actually end out having the same overall grade (Triangle: 17.5 miles, 754 ft of climbing; Pinehurst: 30 miles, 1188 ft of climbing) but Pinehurst seems to have more ups and downs (constant ups and downs) whereas Triangle had the long steady uphill on the front half. I remember Pinehurst being hilly last year; this year it seems to be no less hilly and 5 miles longer. I think we'll feel that on the run!

I headed down tomorrow, Tuesday for a leisure ride and run course recon.  I missed sunday and I need to scope it out.  I don't want any susprises.

fgump - 2009-10-05 12:11 PM Two of my training buddies rode it Saturday.  The author smokes me on the bike (46:02/22.81mph vs. my 47:07/22.29mph at Triangle).

Here's his report:

The ride was good.  The course is tough.  The first 15 miles are not too bad and have some pretty fast stretches, but then you get onto the old part of the course (but in reverse) and hit a longs slow grader up to Hwy 73, and then 3 back to back hills that took us down to about 10 – 12 mph.  These were followed by another long slow grader.  I think there were at least 5 good hills on the course, so should be a challenging day.  We were taking it relatively easy and spinning up hills and pretty much staying comfortable on the fast stretches too.  We ended up at 19.4mph overall.

this is helpful because the  profiles I have seen (mapmyride and bikely) both show the 1st half to be as tough as the 2nd half. It seems to start rolling at about mile 2 and never stops. Definitely going to be tough.
Maybe Harold can give some details on Tuesday afternoon/night.

This first part is much easier than the last 6-8 miles! No question. Thye hills in the later part are long rises with increasing inclines toward the ttop and they keep coming.

I drove the bike and run course last night as well.  Lots of rollers on the bike so if you are good at those then you should be all set.  It reminded me a lot of Old Route 1 riding.  Doug is right about the last few miles in being a continuous gradual climb.  Some good flats and fast descents, but some long false flats as well.  A little bit for everyone.

The run course has a couple of climbs at the middle and back half.  You are running around the lake and it is neighborhood all the way.

I don't expect to be able to watch any of the race outside of the transition zones.  There isn't a good way to get out on the course to watch and make it back in time to see the finish.  Just and FYI to pass along to family if they are coming.

Be sure to post your race numbers and I'll be looking for everyone.  My hubby is racing and I am the designated BT photographer!!
