The Fantastic Nantasket Beach Triathlon
67F / 19C
Precipitation
Total Time = 1h 50m 51s
Overall Rank = 514/536
Age Group = Clydesdale
Age Group Rank = 40/41
Pre-race routine:

This was a little different because I've never done a tri that started so late. Basically pre-race was driving there, having a couple Clif Bars, checking in and getting the bike set up. I drank a G2 and chilled out.
Event warmup:

I pulled the wetsuit on and got a little wet before the swim, and walked around. I met jgalvin waiting to get into the surf.
Swim
  • 20m 22s
  • 402 meters
  • 05m 04s / 100 meters
Comments:

ugh. Not enough swim training, rough surf, overall pretty poor swim
What would you do differently?:

More ocean swim prep now that I'm not as afraid of sharks, and definitely more swimming in general
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

They lost these
What would you do differently?:

In the rain not much you can do if you want to be a little dry after the swim. I felt like this was pretty quick, considering.
Bike
  • 40m 8s
  • 10 miles
  • 14.95 mile/hr
Comments:

This was a damn good ride, right up until I broke a spoke with 2 miles left. Even with the hill on the way out and the headwind on the way back I was averaging close to 16 until I had to slow up some to deal with the broken spoke. It sucked! I may very well have set a personal record on the bike. I knew this was my last race on that wheel, I just wish it could have made it 3 more miles
What would you do differently?:

Better wheel. I'll have it next year. Plus more training the weeks leading up to the event.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Times missing again. I had another quick transition, but this is the first time I have ever really felt that I was on the bike in the race. Bricks might have helped, but frankly, I'm still getting into running.
What would you do differently?:

bricks maybe.
Run
  • 48m 21s
  • 3 miles
  • 16m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

Well, not my best time again because of the splits for the transitions being lost. But I have to say I am super proud of myself. I ran basically the last two miles. Well jogged/shuffled but it's more than I've ever done before consecutively, and it's the next step. I basically gave everything i had for the last race of the year and I was really happy afterwards
What would you do differently?:

More running training. plus bricks
Post race
Warm down:

stood around, drank gatorade, ate banana

What limited your ability to perform faster:

weather, wedding, lack of training, ocean waves, being fat

Event comments:

more drink stations. good marking on the bike course, but could have used more markers on the run.

Way to stick and out and push yourself at the end!  Sorry to hear about the wheel/spoke issue.  I would recommend really focusing on the run.  If you can get yourself up to where you can run the whole race, you should be able to cut some significant time off.  Keep up the great work!
