Nathans Triathlon
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 51m 46s
Overall Rank = 265/311
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 59/67
Pre-race routine:

Showered to get the nervousness out...didn't work. First Tri can't eat but I had english muffin with p/b&j.
Event warmup:

Got to race site late, only five minutes before wave 1 was to go in the water. (I'm in wave 2)
Swim
  • 35m 9s
  • 750 meters
  • 04m 40s / 100 meters
Comments:

We had to swim up to the race start and waited for appox. 4 minutes 'till my wave start. Didn't get to the line in time for the start of the race. I was way off course. I must have done another 300 meters of off course navigation.
What would you do differently?:

Get more open water experience. Practice swim with looking up every few strokes to stay on course.
Transition 1
  • 03m 23s
Comments:

Had to take down some GU. Forgot to put on my heart rate monitor. Putting on socks and shoes took some time.
What would you do differently?:

Practice having my shoes clipped on the bike, so I can run out quicker.
Bike
  • 40m 2s
  • 12 miles
  • 17.99 mile/hr
Comments:

Didn't push to hard to save some for the run. I was just going by how my body felt instead of my speedo. Dropped my water bottle. I did pass a good amount of people. I felt great about that. I didn't get to train the bike/run combo due to few health issues.
What would you do differently?:

Have my shoes clipped on my bike at the start. Get some bike/run combo training.
Transition 2
  • 02m 34s
Comments:

Almost forgot to take helmet off.
What would you do differently?:

Practice trans as part of training.
Run
  • 30m 36s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 52s  min/mile
Comments:

Planned to do an easy 10 min/mile pace. It was a slow start but after the first mile passed a few people.
What would you do differently?:

Get more runs in. I would have pushed a little more on the last half mile or mile.
Post race
Warm down:

Inside the finishers coral...I took in some drinks but did not eat anything. Felt great.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My foot injury kept me from getting more runs in my training.

Event comments:

Would be nice to have some post race live music.

Thanks, I really enjoyed the whole event despite the horrible swim performance.  I plan on doing more in the near future.  As soon as I can take care of my foot issue I'll be able to train harder.  How long have you been doing Tri racing?
