Age Group Rank = 1/5
Pre-race routine:

had a muffin with PB around 5am, then got out the door for bag drop off and transition set up.

Event warmup:

getting nerves out, jumping up and down, some stretching, chit chating...
Swim
  • 1h 06m 37s
  • 4224 yards
  • 01m 35s / 100 yards
Comments:

3 female out of the water to my surprise! water was warmer than air. using wetsuit definetly helped out due to swell/waves during the course. sighting bouys on the way back to dock was a bit difficult due to sunrise, but overall a great swim course!
had chaffing from wetsuit/sport bra top--next time i'll put on some vasoline around armpit area!
What would you do differently?:

nada
Transition 1
  • 05m 10s
Comments:

had trouble getting jersey on while wet--totally forgot to even dry off once the wetsuit was off!
chaffing hurt--put vasoline on all during ride/day
What would you do differently?:

dry off....
Bike
  • 6h 00m 4s
  • 112 miles
  • 18.66 mile/hr
Comments:

there was a fire on the second loop of the course--right near the end--almost got hit by an impatient driver/volunteer, but i can understand why...I'd be in a hurry if my house was burning too!
What would you do differently?:

try and work more on rides involving some headwinds (like down at the shore..)
Transition 2
  • 04m 7s
Comments:

had chaffing from trishorts on ride...changed into regular running shorts for marathon.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 4h 12m 3s
  • 26.2 miles
  • 09m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

felt great to get off the bike! started running, and pace never really died. volunteers were great at aid stations--they had soda, gatorade, water, gel packs, chicken soup, popcorn, cookies, bananas...and music--port o pots at every aid station. great run course. really helped that it was a short loop--the last loop felt like it flew by, and family/friends knew about when they'd see me again during the run.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Post race
Warm down:

walked around track--took a shower.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

need some more speed training/intervals on the bike.

Event comments:

I loved this race!!! the volunteers were awesome--the fans were awesome--very well organized, medical staff was right there, and the courses were perfect. Yes, it was windy, but I never got bored on the courses, and never felt like the race wasn't what i expected. I'd love to volunteer here next year! Overall--if you are looking for an ironman that costs you only $370 bucks to enter, or for your first iron-distance--this is a great race to do it! Also, the director advocates giving out prize money for amatuer racers that place top 1-5 M/F--I even won $300! Totally a great race!

WOW you nailed it congrats on a near perfect race and the prize $. just one little note wetsuits do not like vaseline it eats up neoprene and glue not good.

Got to the word "vaseline" and thought--"i've just got to reply". Then noticed someone beat me to it! Vaseline is a petroleum by-product which will tend to disintegrate the neoprene so you must use a non-petroleum lube like Glide.
Now I'll get back to the rest of your race report............Great time by the way!

Congrats on a great race!!! I finished 3rd overall and was keeping tabs on you. You looked so strong on the run.

BTW, we live really close to each other...I live in KOP and work in Wayne. If you are ever looking for a training partner or just want some company sometimes, let me know. My husband and I are pretty serious with training and pretty much live on the SRT and in Valley Forge Park after work.
