Hmmm... Lake Phalen would be interesting, due to the shallowness.  The "international" length St. Paul Oly is already two laps.  But I like the area in general.  Just make sure there's good security for the bikes if they have to stay overnight

Hi Folks,

I don't know much about Lake Phalen, other than the St. Paul Triathlon is there. A two lap swim would be fine, but I would rather not have that. As for security, that is a for sure item we would have in place. This would be a top notch production for sure. I am mostly interested in a fantastic looking venue, great course (safe), and a Minnesota-cool finish line location. There is much to consider for this thing. Would be a 2011 event, if we can pull it together. Will keep you all posted as I know more.

Thanks,

Bill

Bill,

I was wondering about how many roads you are looking to block? Washington county has more open road than trying to do something through the Twin Cities. If you do something within the 694/494 beltway you are going to have to close off some ramps over the freeways. If you want some possible locations, you might look at Big Marine, or Square lake. Otherwise take it south to Lake Elmo. Otherwise I just went through, and figure out a possible course for IM Itasca. I just don't know how the roads are up there. Maybe B-One or someone could let us know how County Hwy 9 from 71 - County Hwy 2 is for riding. A cool finish would be to cross at the headwaters, but not alot of spectator room there. Try to find a clean lake with a good bottom, and the rest will works it's way out from there.

Good luck, I hope to get myself back up to being able to do a HIM. Injuries, I hate Injuries.

I'm curious...with Racine just announced as a 70.3 Clearwater qualifier and being relatively close/within the region, how will this affect the bid for MN to have a 70.3 qualifier? Will we be automatically ruled out now or will we still have the chance for a race here?

Bill,

I wanted to talk to you about this the other night but we had to take off. I'd love to help you organize and put on the event. Depending on when it falls during the summer will make a bit of a difference on how much involvment I have. But I think it would be killer to get a 70.3 in the TC metro area.
