Rattlesnake - 2009-12-13 7:15 PM just tried to book rooms at the inn at the waterpark.  Mentioned i was with the triathlon but they said they are sold out.  Ayone else have a good idea about where to stay thats cheap?

lonestar website has some other hotels listed too....http://www.ironmanlonestar.com/lodging.php

there are a TON of hotels and even more condo and home rentals that are in close prox.  some of smaller condos/houses can be rented that time of year for the same cost as a hotel.

Use a disc and aero front wheel should not be a problem at all.
I am using Hed jet 60 front and Hed jet 90 rear.
3rd time to do the race with this set up. Always windy but no real problem.

I'm interested in this one for 2010 season. Any idea when registration might open up for this race? I'm scared to death of missing it before it fills up.

So what kind of wheel setup are you natives running at Lonestar, based on the fact that it looks like you can get some nasty wind there.

Am I going to get blown off course with my tri-spoke front and wheelcover rear?

I'll be riding with a Jet 90 Front and a wheelcover on the back.

Does anybody have a link to the bike course profile?  Any idea of how flat it is?

FLAT FLAT FLAT! There is one, I think, "overpass" you go up, but it's not steep, more of a longer one...and I think that's it, oh, and the little bump going up to the seawall, otherwise FLAT FLAT FLAT.

That's what I like to hear.  Not a whole lot of hill training to be done in Houston!

Are you still at Hood?  I assume at this point you'll be sticking it out with the army?

yeah, I lived in Houston before USMA and when I got there, for running, I was demolished...haha! Yes, still at Hood for a few more months. I change command early April, hang out for a bit, and then off to grad school---don't know where yet as I'm waiting on acceptance stuff. 2 years grad school, then 2 years in Sosh.

We'll have to link up at Lonestar and say hi!

I don't think it matters where you're from, when you get to WP, everybody dies running...

Good luck w/ school applications.  We definitely needs to make plans to meet up as Lonestar gets closer!

I just dropped the dollars and signed up.  Going to have to brown bag it for lunch now for a while.Smile

The two main reasons why I signed up are: 1. Keith puts on great races, and for $250 I like to be sure it is going to be worth the dollars.  2.  Location, I live in Cypress and this is in Galveston, can't beat it; no travel and hotel costs for a change.

This will be my second HIM.  Looking forward to it.  Hope everyone has a great time and I am sure this thread will keep growing as the the event arrives.

That's good.  Use those nerves as your impetus to train sufficiently.

For those of you from Houston:

Are you going to stay down in Galveston on Saturday night or just make the drive down that morning?

Where is everyone else staying?  I'm thinking about Texas City, but I don't want any problems getting onto the island that morning.

Thoughts?

galveston andrew.  but the wife is rockin' the sprint on saturday and some BT friends are coming in from a few different states and canada for the race's.  its gonna be a long weekend thing... and a beer or 40 sunday night.

my .02 on texas city... if you're going to drive there why not just cross the causeway and stay on the island.

We drive down Sunday morning.  We save the hotel $$ for races that are out of morning driving distance range.
