Veteran 660 Northern Illinois | Subject: Universal Sports Channel I went to watch Universal Sports last night and channel 604 (Directv) wasn't there. I called Directv and was told after a long time waiting that the Universal Channel was a "temporary" channel and was gone now. I asked if there was any plan to bring it back but they didn't know anything. When I asked if there was anyone I could talk to about the decision I was directed to their web site and told I could send an e mail. This is really disappointing, I really enjoyed watching the programming on that channel. Does anyone know if it is available anywhere else either on cable or Dish Network? |

Subject: RE: Universal Sports Channel YEAH, I NOTICED!! DirecTV is fighting with Comcast so I lost Versus -- which last year aired Ironman AZ, LP, IMOO and Couer -- and I lost my Ice Hockey aired on Versus. So DirecTV I thought was giving us Universal Sports cause of the Versus dispute ... in two weeks Universal Sports aired Ironman China, LP, Couer, five World Triathlon Championships in Europe... I was in heaven!! And then BOOM yesterday they pulled Universal Sports with no warning -- cycling, triathlon, gone, just like that. So I'm DONE. After seven years with DirecTV I am dropping them and Monday I am switching to my local Cablevision. I cannot live without my Ironman and ice hockey. Edited by Dream Chaser 2009-10-02 7:42 AM |

That and PBS are the two main channels we watch (no cable for us). Same here PBS (GFs dad is actually VP of the main atlanta station) and US are pretty much all I have setup in my PVR for over the air shows. (no cable either) Check to see if NBC has a local substation with it over the air in your area. If you are close enough to the transmitter you can get it without a roof mount antenna, I just have a flat indoor/outdoor one hanging on the wall in one of my spare bedrooms and get everything they transmit for Atlanta area. |

Extreme Veteran 700 Tucson | Subject: RE: Universal Sports Channel I spoke w/DishNetwork yesterday because I'm sick of our cable bill. You can get both VS HD and Universal HD from them. They are running a free to all channels promo for VS this month, but normally you have to get at least a Gold level package to get it. They also claims to be including the Plat. HD channels (which include Universal) for no charge right now when you get an HD package (whether Turbo or as an add-on). Call em and check. |

Expert 763 Behind you | Subject: RE: Universal Sports Channel Crap, I just dropped Dish because they didn't have it and ordered Time Warner, which ALSO doesn't have it from what I can tell. Dish has "Sleuth" which is the NBC Universal collection. I guess thats the same thing? |

Universal Sports and Universal HD are two different channels, no? I have Dish and checked on Universal Sports and it says "not available through Dish Network". For the Olympics, Dish allocated a temp channel for Universal Sports HD but I think it's gone. |

Just get an antenna stop worrying about if dish or cable has it.. cheaper anyway |

Regular 64 Muncie | Subject: RE: Universal Sports Channel I feel sorry for all of you who can't get it. Comcast in my area still carries it with the HD programming and it's also one of the 3 channels that the local NBC station broadcasts so I KNOW what I'll be watching next Saturday. |

I pick up Universal off the over air antenna (Channel 5-3 in Chicagoland). Check your local NBC and see if they have it as a sub channel. |

I emailed DTV this morning saying how much I like the 1 month trial, and requested that they make it a permanent channel. Maybe if enough people do that, they will actually do it? |

Extreme Veteran 1112 Las Vegas | Subject: RE: Universal Sports Channel I work for the Nielsn TV Ratings and have to tell you that the shows that stay on TV are the ones that get the ratings. If the shows you like go off the air, there simply are not enough people watching them. Everyone complains about the reality shows that clog up the channels, but those are the shows getting the ratings and therefore keep increasing in air time. |

This isn't about ratings, Many of the cable and satelite companies just give you this channel as a teaser like they wil do with the movie channels to get you hooked so you buy it. They are not losing this channel due to low ratings. Also those with any sort of sat service if the Comcast buy out of NBC goes through you may lose it all together... |

Master 2477 Oceanside, California | Subject: RE: Universal Sports Channel I just dropped DirectTV. After being a good customer for many years.. 1 - They never delivered the replacement DVR they promised. 2 - when I got frustrated with the endless hold time and calling tree crap, I asked them WTF? on email three times - no response. 3 - I decided to shop around and found a great deal on DishNetwork. I gave them the courtesy of emailing them a pdf of my quote. I told them that they had one opportunity to beat the deal. If they could not, and (in caps on original email) OR IF YOU MAKE ME CALL A SALESPERSON, I was leaving. They emailed me with a temporary code to circumvent the hold time and go straight to a salesperson to discuss the matter. 4 - When my wife called to cancel, she talked to three different levels of managers who wanted to know why we did not get a chance to keep them and what they could do to keep us. Her answer, "Your job the first 5 times we asked." 5 - For two weeks (and now under contract with Dish) we got 2 calls a day from DirecTV. Apparently, talking to my 3 year old is not adequate for them. The said thing is, up to that point, I was happy and never really considered leaving. Glad I did. |
