Total Time = 1h 22m 47s
Overall Rank = 114/317
Age Group = MC
Age Group Rank = 6/13
Pre-race routine:

Hydrated and ate peanut butter and bagel and had a boiled egg. Hung out with guys from work. The entire training staff did the race, it was pretty cool.
Event warmup:

Swam a couple hundred.
Swim
  • 13m 46s
  • 750 meters
  • 01m 50s / 100 meters
Comments:

Huge wave and the first 200 yards was brutal never could get in rhythm made 1st turn and found some space and the next thing I know I start running into people walking. The swim went around a little piece of land jutting out in the lake and you were close enough to the bank to stand, really got me out of rhythm but soon was really clear and swimming pretty well. best swim time yet so I guess it wasn't as bad as I thought.
What would you do differently?:

not let things get in my head, start and people walking really seemed to throw me off and effect breathing and heart rate. Tired getting out of water and usually feel good.
Transition 1
  • 01m 44s
Comments:

went well 2nd in age group super long run to bike mount really spiked my heart rate.
What would you do differently?:

Work on running bike mount
Bike
  • 38m 56s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 19.16 mile/hr
Comments:

Had to start out slow and sort of get heart rate back into check. Stayed on aero bars better still have to lose weight like always pass 10 people on down hills get passed by same 10 on uphills.
What would you do differently?:

you guessed it not be fat
Transition 2
  • 01m 7s
Comments:

pretty good but got tongue of shoe shoved in and could not get it pulled out just ran with that way
What would you do differently?:

be more careful putting shoes on and not mess with the tongue if it gets shoved in it worked itself out as the run went on.
Run
  • 27m 16s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 46s  min/mile
Comments:

Smoked on the run cold finally caught up with me started coughing and could not stop. Pushed it as hard as I could but not much left, I had been running better in training and hoped it would translate in race but not much, hope to improve on run over the winter.
What would you do differently?:

Just need to work on this aspect alot.
Post race
Warm down:

Ate Brunswick stew was really good. Hung out with guys from work.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

weight

Event comments:

Great race and good stew.

Great job and great race report!  That's so weird that the swim was so shallow, but you kept pressing on.  I love Brunswick Stew as well - sounds like you had a great time.
