I'm in for the Houston race.  Have not started "training" for it yet.

However I have a friend doing NYC in a few weeks.  Her first marathon.  She was having trouble getting past 15 miles in her training runs.

So today I ran with her and got her past 18 - blew right through that 15 mile barrier!

It is fun to train with someone just getting started with this madness.  Gave her some confidence heading into her taper.

I've been doing at least one IM a year since 2005 so I have a pretty good base level of fitness.

Our pace yesterday was fairly easy - not the pace I will be shooting for when I start training in earnest.

I'm in!  It'll be my first marathon.  I'll start focusing on the training after the Longhorn HIM on 10/25.  I have been doing some 15-ish mile runs near the end of my HIM training so I need to keep building on that.  Thank God it's finally getting to cooler months!

Houston will be my first marathon as well. I wanted to do the Harbor Half since Saturday is a scheduled 13 mile run anyways, but I will probably stay in Sinton and get that 13 miler in. Good luck next week.

I'm in. . .    4th Houston Marathon in a row.  This year I am gonna try to qualify for Boston.  Yikes! ! !  I need a 3:30.   Just finished my first week of my 15 week program.  36 miles this week, and only gonna get longer.

I Love the Houston Marathon.  So much better than the White Rock Marathon.

Everybody Have Fun. . .

I am in as well.  I signed up back in July, it sold out fast.  This will be my second year doing the Houston Full Marathon, my first was this year in January.  I will be doing the Longhorn HIM on the 25th of this month, then the San Antonio RNR Half marathon next month.  Once the HIM is over, I will log more running miles.  Good luck to everyone and have fun!!

I'm doing the 1/2 this year.  I've run Houston 3 times, but I'm having a really hard time committing to running a full again since having baby #2.  It's a great race though, one of my favorites!

It will be a first for me after three 1/2's. I guess it's time to go all the way!

I haven't surpassed 12 miles in training yet, but will soon. It is going to be quite a mental game surpassing 13.1. I'm a little nervous!

BTW, Hi Aggiegrad!! Smile

So I looked into the ABB Team Challenge thing on the Houston Marathon website.  Apparently, you just create a team (for free) and everyone on the team gets some free swag no matter how you finish.  See the excerpt below for detail.  Of course if our team rocks hard, we'll have a chance at winning some medal or something.

I've created a team and need some teammates.  Who wants to join team Funky Feet?  Shoot me a PM with your name or email and I'll "draft" you onto the team.  Need a minimum of 3 marathoners and a maximum of 6 to have a team.  I also encourage someone doing the half to get a team of half-marathoners together for a team.

Here's a link to the ABB Challenge info: http://www.chevronhoustonmarathon.com/TeamChallenge/index.cfm/>
And here's an excerpt from the email that came out yesterday:
"All team challenge participants will receive a special ABB Team Challenge back bib, one tech racing cap, $10 off a $50 or more purchase at our Race Weekend Merchandise booth, and the opportunity to purchase tickets for you and your fans into the post-race ABB Team Challenge Hospitality Lounge to celebrate your race, rest and relax with your own facilities, beverages, food, and a special photo opportunity with your teammates, friends and families."

I'm signed up for the marathon - my second one (first was the '09 race). I'm trying to log a few more miles than I did last year and things are going well so far. Thank goodness the cooler weather is finally here but I am bummed about it getting darker earlier. I'll be wearing the headlamp every evening pretty soon...

Hope everyone is enjoying their training!

In Longhorn 70.3 I went a 1:37 in the run. This shocked me, and I can't help but think what my marathon will be like if I do a 1:37 half mary on hills after a 1.2 mile swim and 56 mile bike. I really, really want to get on a good training program and see what I can do.

Congrats - that is awesome!! Plug that into Runner's World Smart Coach and see what you get. I've been pretty happy with their plans so far.

Thanks guys, I'll definitely check out runners world and some others. One things for sure, I have never been this fast of a runner until I took up triathlon, so I will mix in swims and bikes regardless of the plan I'm on.
I'm really looking forward to this race, I've been a memorial park junkie for 4 years now. I'll start trianing for this bad boy in about 2 weeks when I recover from Longhorn 70.3.

I'm in...it'll be my 3rd Full in Houston. Did the Koala 1/2 last weekend and it felt pretty good, so I think I'm right on schedule. I'm doing Austin Full in Feb, any advice on recovery between Houston in Jan and Austin in Feb?  ~ 4weeks

^^^^  You could try swimming and biking as opposed to running to maintain cardiovascualr strength until your legs have recovered and are ready go.
