So is anyone going to the OWS tonight? I didn't get registered in time but I emailed Courtney (the events director) and she said it would be fine if I came, I just need to show my USAT card and sign some waivers. For those of you who have gone, do you have  to swim the whole course? I have a sprint Saturday morning and don't really want to swim the full 1500m in one shot tonight, just want to get readjusted to OWS since my last race was about a month ago. Thanks!

I am thinking I'll go tonight. I'm not registered for anything, so I'll just show up....as usual. LOL

I am sure you don't HAVE TO swim the whole thing. Sounds like they have 90+ swimmers signed up for tonight! There are comments on the facebook page ( http://www.facebook.com/fifthcircle#!/pages/Omaha-NE/Omaha-Triathlo... ) that lead me to believe it's a swim at your own pace, for as long or short as you want, sorta thing.

That was a perfect evening for a swim! Buoys were impossible to see (for me), but other than that, the swim was fun and I think everyone had a good time.

I met "Slickster" there with his wife and two ornery boys...not sure what their deal was? They usually seem to love those type of events. Guess it was "act like Dad day" LOL!!!! We got in the water and chatted it up with "kklems" and his wife for a bit.

I had better sign up for the damn event soon....

I was there as well. I agree, very tough to see the buoys! I probably shouldn't have, but I wore my wetsuit in hopes that I'll be able to  use it at my race tomorrow (probably not though). I also doubt we'll be able to use it come August 1st, but who knows! On another note, that was my longest swim ever and I'm pretty happy about it!

I better sign up soon as well, July 18th is coming up pretty quick. Hopefully they do something with that boat ramp come race day so we're not all slipping and slidding!

Yeah, nice swim! 1500 is a good distance....I was all over the place, didn't figure out my sighting until past the half way point.  You know you're off course when you look up and they guy in the kayak is backing up so you don't run into him...lol...At least the sun won't be in the same place on race day, but it may be "in your face" a bit on the way back.  I believe they are supposed to have mats to help with that "slick" boat dock area too.

Yes, if anyone was curious who I was....I was the one with the young boys fighting and being punchy with each other post swim Ah well, we all have our days!

I'll probably try to make it to one more of the open water swims pre-race...

FYI everyone--I was out scouting the course and ran the trail last night that the run leg is on and its not in very good shape.  It's relatively narrow and the asphalt that is there is very uneven.  There is also a little jaunt through grass and dirt from the bike transition to the dam--this could be soft and muddy if we get any rain before the event.

Thanks for the heads up on the run leg....

I hope I can actually "RUN" some of it. I have been fighting with ITBS for the last 3 weeks, and it's not looking too good.

More event details are up.  You have to check in the day before by 7 pm.  Race starts at 6 am. Yikes how did I miss that little detail.  Water temp was 82 degrees so by August 1 wetsuits might not be allowed.

I am in the same boat as you. Went out for a little 20 minute run last night to see how the IT band was doing, still hurt pretty bad on the way back. Really really hoping it isn't acting up in 11 days!

Bike course is between the black lines which are the intersection of Military/State.  Green line is the start (lake).

I think there are 4 difficult climbs, the first one out of T1 being the most difficult, then about the same between the near 200' climb (3rd hill) and the last two.
There are 6 100'+ climbs.
