Swim
Comments: This was a miserably slow swim for me. I went about 150 yards off course twice. It was so bad the second time that a kayaker came over and told me to bet back on the course. The good thing is that I felt really smooth in the water. What would you do differently?: Sight more. Transition 1
Comments: Had to pack wetsuit, goggles, etc.. into transition bag, so this was a slow T1. Bike
Comments: The bike course was a bit scary due to potholes, cracks, and wet conditions. The wind was a bit annoying, but not too bad. This wasn't an "A" race for me. I tried to be efficient and safe since I'm doing Longhorn 70.3 in two weeks. Overall I'm happy with my time considering the conditions. What would you do differently?: Use liquid nutrition. It was tough to eat a Powerbar on those roads. Transition 2
Comments: T2 came up earlier than I expected so I was only able to get one foot out of my shoe. I clipped out and ran to my rack with one shoe on, one shoe off. Put socks on so it took me a bit longer than normal. Two long transitions today, at least I was consistent. What would you do differently?: Recon the course so I know T2 is coming. Run
Comments: I couldn't feel part of my foot for the first couple of miles. I thought something was wrong with my sock. The first few miles felt great even though we were going up hill. When we made the turn around on the Katy Trail and started going down hill. I felt like I was flying. I stayed with a fast guy from about 3.5-5.5 miles, but couldn't hold the pace til the end. I love running in cooler weather! I've also done more running than usual as I'm training for the San Antonio Marathon in November. The extra mileage in training paid off. I'm happy with this run. What would you do differently?: Maybe have a gel with me for the run. I ran out of gas the last half mile or so. Post race
Warm down: Look for my family, pack up the car and head home. Event comments: The only race in this series I have done is the Chicago Triathon. I believe the Chicago Triathlon is a much more racer and spectator friendly. It was fun to compete downtown, but all of the logistics involved are not worth it. It kills your whole weekend. I also think they could have had wetsuit strippers and the timing chip straps should be neoprene. Luckily I had my own, but those other things cut into your ankle. I know many people complained about it. It was fun, but I'm not sure I will be back next year. Last updated: 2009-04-29 12:00 AM

Did all of the crazy driving to drop off run gear in T2 and then Rebecca drove me to T1 and the swim start.
Ran about a mile, put on my wetsuit and then watched all the Pros come in to T1. I wound up starting with the 40+ age group, but it was fun to watch the pros in transition. Laura Bennett was basically naked. Her swimsuit was white and not meant to be wet. I'm not complaining, but my wife did tell me to "put away your boner".
