So while I was contemplating eating a second Michigan grown Honey Crisp, I thought I would ask which apples everyone else like?

Honey Crisps are like dessert - perfect combo of sweet and tart, and a great crunch.  They're so expensive, though - I've been eating Braeburns and Jonagolds a lot lately.

mmmmm ... this weekend my mom brought me some apples from the orchard near her. I just ate one sliced with peanut butter.  Sooooo good. Sad thing is, i don't know what variety it is.  But i got my apple today, that's what counts right?

I was just thinking about this yesterday - I went apple picking and everything was so picked over; sadly, I haven't had a free weekend in over a month until now Empire and MacIntosh apples are generally my favorite, and they make exceptional pies. Empires are pretty much not grown down here, but Wegman's trucks them in from NY State. And some of the orchards here only grow Macs in the summer - the one place I went to that normally has them was totally out. Apples become too sweet to me sometimes, so I like the more tart varieties.

I will snack on Galas. Some green varieties are decent and good with peanut butter. I dislike most yellow varieties - they're never crunchy enough and Red Delicious aren't my favorite either. Yesterday, I came home with a mix of Stayman, York and Jona Golds.

Yes, I am very picky about my apples.

I haven't voted yet because two of my favourites: Jazz & Gala aren't up there and I can't add two.

I voted Jonathan or Jonamac. A jonamac is a jonathan/mcintosh cross but very similar to a jonathan so you could look for either--that's why I listed them together. They are firm, very white flesh and can have varying tartness.

If you dislike a mushy, too-sweet apple you'l love these.

Honey crisps are not common around here.  I tried one once though...didn't wow me.  I typically end up eating fuji's or pink lady types.

I have yet to try the Staymans I got - had never heard of that variety before.

I stock my office with Red Delicious, but only from Washington State!  Fuji's are pretty good too, as are the Asian pears which seem more like apples to me.

Mom and I went apple picking yesterday.  I LOVE fresh apples!

When I was growing up in BC we used to sit in the trees and eat apples until we got sick ... and then eat more apples...

Cortland apples at Central Market were an eye-opener to me. Snif. I miss Central Market.Oh, I'm also fond of my 13" MacBook Pro. Had the 15", but it was too much to lug around.

Pinova.

I've only found them in the fall at Central Market (maybe Whole Foods as well).

Different apples at different times of the year - It's fall and I'm enjoying macintosh right now but that didn't stop me from eating a granny smith this afternoon while teaching my history class.
