Pre-race routine:

Well..... My friend Terri and I drove up Friday...it took a long time, like 6 hours long time. We saw a lot of trees- yes thats all trees :) I was batteling a cold all week and actually felt pretty crappy on the way up.
So we go to packet pick up and drive over a curb to get there....people do know who we are- dont they?? ;)
Slept good- felt better in the am. We got to sleep til like 6:30...race start wasnt til 9- nice. We get up and I say- what the hell is that noise?? Is that the WIND? shit- yes it is. We turn on the news and it is 19 degrees in the wind....fuck. OK- well at least that means I am NOT wearing shorts....
grabbed some food and we were off.
This is apoint to point so we took a bus to Bayfield.
Oh- did I mention it was also snowing! We had to scrape snow off the car before we left....nice.
Event warmup:

Ran a little down the road to pee behind a tree.... yes there were a lot of trees:)
tried to figure out how it is possible to run in shorts and a tank and not become hypothermic?? If anyone knows- please fill me in.

Comments:

Well the PLAN was to try to neg split this! HA- that went out the window after mile 2.... I was laready Z3. I did feel damn good though- so I decided to just go with it.... this wasnt an A race so whatever was the attitude I had.
It was cold but I was happy with what I wore. I had water at every aid station and a gel every 5 miles.
Luckily it was on a path and was mostly blocked by trees- so we didnt have too much wind. When we hot a clearing- holy crap....blow me over. The path was not easy to run on in many places...it was really soft- almost like sand...ugh....energy zapper.
So I ran along at my favorite little 8:20s pace for 16 miles and then I was like- ummm....ok Im done. Really just knew I was slowing down. Got to mile 20 was still doing 8:40s.... If I hung onto this Id still BQ. But I wasnt really in the mood to push at this race (I believe I could have though). I knew I didnt have many running miles in and my A race was in 2 weeks- which I want to smoke! So- I just let myself slow down.... and slow down I did....ugh.
I couldnt feel my face or my fingers...it was so hard to open my gels...which were more like fudgesicles then gels :) AND best part the water they handed out was so cold it had ice chunks in it.... yeah lets get that core temp down...... brrr
It was really really, really boring out there.... totally staright and trees and trees..... sigh.... I need entertainment
Oh well. I still prd and I didnt have much of a build up or much of a taper.
I finished and said to Terri- I am never doing another marathon- they just are not fun. She laughed and said- you are already signed up for one in Jan!! Damn.....ok that one Im training for!!
What would you do differently?:

run more:)
Post race
Warm down:

more like warm up. holy shit I was frozen...so so cold. I couldnt feel my fingers...oh I dont think I felt them since mile 10.
Fekt kinda dizzy so I sat down and went to change clothes and find Terri (who ran a 3:18!!!)
On the way there I said I was sittingin Lake Superior (its right across from our hotel) after the race for my ice bath.... taht didnt happen- I was way too cold.
We sat under our blankets and cranked the heat up to 100 when we got back!!

Event comments:

We had fun.... I wasnt thrilled with the race...but it is probaly a fast course- esp if the course is dry.
They definitly did a great job though.

Nice job Tammy.  I would never be able to sign up for a race in the middle of nowhere.  So close to BQ - I am sure you can do it at the next, WARM one
