Age Group Rank = 250/605
Pre-race routine:

Woke-up and got some breakfast. Drove to a friends house in Fed Hill and waited around until 9:15ish. Walked down to the start and got in my section 2 and waited for the race to start
Event warmup:

Did some small stretches and just waited for everything to start out.
Run
  • 1h 58m 59s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 09m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

Went out in the second group and ended up going out WAYYY too fast. Ended up pulling a 7:36 for the first mile which was obviously way too fast. Slowed down to avg around 830-845 for the next few miles. I felt good until I got around Lake Monetebello. Legs started to get really tired and I think it had to do a little with the rain on the streets. I tried to push the pace some around the lake and whenever I would try to push and kick on the run I would slip some and almost cramp up on my calf.

At this point I realized I wasn't going to get near 1:50 so I did a little mental prep and physical prep to focus on breaking the two hours. The last two miles were really painful cause my quads and calves were seizing up. Just trying to maintain a good pace was very difficult.

Ended up crossing the finish line with my head held high and knowing that I finished and still hit a goal with a good time. Ended up with a 7min PR on the Baltimore course and plan to come back in a few years to try it again.
What would you do differently?:

Try to run longer runs and when I get to the point of fatigue to push harder/longer. I really need to focus on this when Eagleman comes up
Post race
Warm down:

Walked through to get water, food, my medal and those foil things. Met up with my cousin who ended up doing 2 hours and tried to stay warm while I waited for my friends at the Johnny Unitas stadium. Met up with my friend who for their first 1/2 did 2:15 which was really well. Walked back to her place got cleaned up and went home to relax

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The hills got me again but I'm happy to not have any issues stomach wise throughout the whole race.

Event comments:

Always a great race and love the people who come out and cheer you on. Great representation of the City of Baltimore. Love the race but I think I'll take a few years off and come back again to tackle it once again.

Congrats on the course PR!  That is a great time on a very windy and challenging day.  A lot of people's times were slower because of the weather which makes your PR even better ........
