Overall Rank = 453/3152

Age Group Rank = 59/326
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:45AM. Got a shower. Had some breakfast (Grape Nuts and a banana). Left the house at 5:45 and arrived in Baltimore around 6:45.
Event warmup:

Race start was at 8AM. So about 7:15 I started my warm up. Just a few quick minutes of light jogging and some strides. Then hit the bathroom one more time.
Run
  • 3h 42m 51s
  • 26.2 miles
  • 08m 31s  min/mile
Comments:

Made the critical mistake of starting out too fast and eventually got burned out in the end. My goal pace was sub-8. I ran the first 13 miles at a 10 seconds faster pace. Ultimately I should have started out the race at an 8:15 or so pace. But the adrenaline got the best of me and the last 5-6 miles I was depleted. Looking back I didn't drink enough fluids and ran out of electrolytes, something I plan to really get straight for the next tri season.
What would you do differently?:

Start out slow and build my pace throughout. It was a huge detriment to my pace, and I would have rather finished the race strong and feeling better rather than hurt and very frustrated.
Post race
Warm down:

Sat on a chair in the rain for awhile and ate and drank a few items.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Going out toooooooo fast!

It is not a course to run even splits.  The first 4 miles are going to be slower typically (generally uphill) and the stretch from 15 - 20 is uphill, so it will be slower there.  Don't worry about electrolytes.  They aren't a problem.

But you finished and learned something from your race!  And that is still a good time!!

Nice job on a solid finish on a tough course!  I can't imagine trying even splits on this course, but, as I found out trying to bank time early for the 15-22 stretch isn't the best idea... :-)
