I read once that it can take a long time for the mind to catch up to the body - meaning that when you are larger and lose a lot of weight - you look in the mirror and still see the weight - that bigger person.  That it can take months for your mind to catch up with what you REALLY look like.  The reverse is true too - every notice how you can think you are fine and then suddenly catch a glimpse of yourself months later and realize somewhere along the line you gained 10 pounds?  Maybe you should take some pics of yourself and then look at them objectively.  You might be a little surprised at what you see.  Smile

I think there is truth in what you say.  I finally broke down and bought a new pair of running shorts in a size - are you ready for this - small.  They are a little more snug than I would prefer, but the side pockets don't gape so I guess they fit.  I don't think of myself as "small."  Not with 33% body fat.  And yeah, I know that some of that is vanity sizing, but I think of myself as "medium," which is a whole heck of a lot better than "large."  But no matter what, I am not the "skinny" person that the other posted suggested that someone within ten pounds of goal weight is.

About 6'2" and just over 200 lbs right now, down from a high of 240 several years ago.

It was down to low 190's in the early summer but my training has been lacking through the last few months. I agree that the common perception of "normal" has become skewed. Even around 200 lbs, I am frequently called skinny or thin but I can definitely feel the extra 10 when I'm running. Ideally, I'd like to try for mid 180's but I'm not working very hard at it so far. The height used to be closer to 6'3" but age (52) and a badly broken leg long ago have trimmed it down a bit.

I'm just a hair under 5'5" and bounce from 133-136. I'd like to weight 128 but I just can't seem to quit eating ice cream every night.

Oddly, people who haven't seen me in a while comment on how thin I look. I did lose some weight but I think the vast majority of my body is due to tri training - reforming my body contouring.

Wow, here goes, I weighed last week, prior to coming down with swine flu, and think I have lost a few pounds since (every cloud has a silver lining eh!?).

Female, 28y0, 5'8.4", 10st9lbs/67.8kg (or to our friends across the pond, 149lb).  When I started tri training a year ago I was 11 1/2 stone (161lb).  My bodyfat at the moment is 30.7% according to the machine at the gym.  NOT happy with that.

All my own fault, due to lack of exercise and eating too much (though in my defence I have had a back injury).  Once I get over this H1N1 I will be back to the gym to re-start my routine, and try and get me mojo back!  Have put on 6 pounds since march!  Ouch....

6'0", 135-140 lbs. Was topping off at around 163 lbs. back in '07. Basically I returned to my average weight from when I got married 19 years ago. If I look thin it's part training and part DNA.

Since people are mentioning ages, I am 47.

Should also mention, I was ALWAYS the skinny kid. Never saw anyone as skinny that was my sex and my age. Other males were skinny, but they were always much younger. There were others my age that were as skinny, but they were always female.

As someone else mentioned, I turned into a 'skinny fat guy' in my later years...skinny, but with a 35 inch waist, and little muscle. Am still skinny, but back to my youthful 29-30 inch waist, and now with some muscle tone. Well, as much muscle as a skinny guy will get.

For my body type, I'm in the best shape ever, especially since I never ran in my youth, and didn't swim in my youth.

I need to lose weight but have been at a plateau since April. It sucks. Legs are pretty solid but mid section leaves a lot to be desired. Sigh
