Got my app. in Monday, not sure if you guys saw but the database for registrants is now running and active.  I did not see my name yet but it looks like it takes a few weeks from the sounds of it, look under "Entry Lists".

I am really excited, my folks and sister's family live in Massachussettes and my uncle is running too.

spin classes, swimming, no running of any significance yet.  I have a pesky knee soreness so I am going to keep it light for a few weeks.  I'll get going mid November to base build, then hit the 16 wk program in late Dec.  Good luck in Philly.

I registered yesterday. Hoping to be injury free this year -- last year was a challenge.

I always watch and/or volunteer.  Have only run Miami's 26.2 and that was in 2008.  Still a Boston 2010 dream could emerge and beg to be met in Jan/Feb this year.  I'll see how training and coaching goes.  I'm volunteering with a charity team of runners for Cycle Kids, but so far that's all I have planned for Boston.

Well, that and remembering my dear Uncle John Kiley who used to come to Boston to run most every April, but passed away unexpectedly last February.   I may have to run a few miles on the hills for him, R.I.P.

I'm in! This will be my first as well.

I submitted my stuff about two weeks ago and got notice last week that, pending verification of my qualifying time, I was in. They charged my card on Friday and this week I show up in the entrants list.

I'm really excited.

I received my card from the BAA yesterday, my name's on the list, and there's a good chance I'll be in the first wave.

My 1st time.

I've heard it's a pretty big race.

My folks and sister's family live near the start, too easy to have a free place nearby and not do it.  Maybe I am placing too much nostalgia on the whole thing, but in my second year of marathoning I am really honored to run this race.  Question to all - out of the field of 25000 or so, how many qualify and how many are charity runners?

For the charity folks, please do not find this question offensive - I think you putting your body on the line to do your great work to benefit others is far beyond in greatness to my weekend warrior insanity.  I was just curious as to how they determine field size, qualifying times for the AG's and if there is any statistical determination or just what "feels right" based on historical data.  I am a bit of a geek and just curious.

I have run Boston as a charity runner and I read an article last year that said that they keep at least 80% of the field for qualifiers. The other 20% is a combination of different invitees - not just charity runners, but non-qualifying runners who get numbers through their local running clubs (the clubs help out at other BAA events throughout the year to qualify for numbers), invited celebrities, numbers given to sponsors (i.e. John Hancock gets a lot of numbers to distribute), etc.

On a related note, Boston 2010 has already closed out to applicants. Good luck to everyone who is running! Maybe I will see you out there - I think I am going to volunteer next year.

I wish I could do it. It is a dream of mine to do Boston but the marathon I did in Maine I missed the time by 16 mins. So I am out until I can do one that I can qualify for. I will be 51 in April so I am out. Hey everyone have a good time on me!!

I will be a first-time runner also - at Boston and any marathon.  And, I suppose, part of the answer to a previous question as I am running on an exemption given to my Running Club.  Actually, I think we get 8-10 per year in return for helping out with water stops, etc...
Only got the call from my RC this weekend, and still need to get all the paperwork processed.  For my RC, anyone interested in the exemption must complete an application to the RC detailing what he/she has done with the Club, how he/she has run, etc... The RC then ranks all the applicants (I think more than 40 this year), and goes down the list once the expemption codes arrive from the BAA.  I was not in the first group, but someone higher up the list will now not be able to run due to injury, thus my call over the weekend.
Fifteen weeks to get ready... Cool.

It'll be my first. BQ'd at Hartford. On the Run Less, Run Faster plan. Doing one race per month to stay sharp and motivate me to get out there in the frigid mornings to train. Will try to get down from NH and run heartbreak a couple of times. I ran the Derry Boston Prep 16-miler. There's hills in that there town! Tongue out

Where are others at in terms of mileage?  I am logging 24-26 miles per week now but in 6-7 mile trail segments.  I am now thinking about getting serious about the training and starting to up my long run distances.  Thinking 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 18 with increases every other week (should take me right up to the big day).  Am I behind?  Curious where others might be at?

BTW - I write this from SFO, as I prepare for 14hrs in the plane to Asia - travel is causing havoc on my training, ugh!
