Denver Marathon - RunMarathon

Denver, Colorado
United States

Sunny
Total Time = 4h 27m 40s
Overall Rank = 1034/1924
Age Group = F 45-49
Age Group Rank = 25/64
Pre-race routine:

Up @ 4:15, packed car, out the door by 5:15; drank coffee and ate Clif Bar on the way. Took quite a while to find a place to park.
Event warmup:

Walked to the bucking bronco statue w/ Cathy, Ted and Mel for photo for Dime. Dropped off gear bag. Found pace group. Should have gotten there earlier so had time to pee!
Run
  • 4h 27m 40s
  • 26.2 miles
  • 10m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

This was .3 miles long!!! I got what I trained for and can't complain about my time. This was much more interesting than the Colfax Marathon and I'll def do this again.
What would you do differently?:

1) Build my training so I can do the long runs. I was on target to BQ and feeling good til just after 16 miles and then imploded. Legs and hips were not ready to go that far -- longest run in months was 13.1 miles. Had to slow down to not do long-term damage.
2) Pee before the start! Didn't have time to wait in line (I thought) and only had a nervous bladder (I thought). By mile 18 when I was sure I couldn't BQ I stopped at a porto potty and realized I had been carrying a lot of pee!
Post race
Warm down:

Wandered over to gear check then found BTers in the beer garden. I could hardly walk!! Then shuffled over to Katie Mullen's for food with everyone.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training. Niggling running injuries throughout 2009.

It's hard to get those long training runs in.  Still a great race for you.  Definitely frustrating when you have to stop and pee.  I set a PR for that event during the race!

Nice job Susan!  Next time maybe get a few runs over 13.2 miles!    Hope you're not feeling too sore today.

Great job on Sunday! It's pretty amazing to pull off a marathon without the long run training!

It was also great to finally meet you.

Nice race!

Impressive with limited long runs. Sounds like the BT group really made the race special.

Congrats

Congrats on marathon #2 under your belt! I know you have a BQ in for sure. I'd love it if you could join me at the St. George marathon next October (if we get in the lotto). Can't believe I'm even talking about doing another one...it's like after giving birth you forgot how bad it hurt :-) Congrats again and looknig forward to doing some training with you sometime!
