Subject: Manchester Road Race : Official Thread

I'm a newbie and I did this race last year. But, I did a run/walk that varied throughout the course. If anyone is interested in getting together and helping me get ready for this, I'd greatly appreciate it. I live in Western MA, but frequent CT, so I'm flexible. I'm also currently unemployed which gives MORE flexibility.

I'm considering running it with my 12yo son.  He expressed a desire to do some 5k this fall, but sinc ehe plays hockey, our weekends are pretty much booked.  He says the additional 1.75 miles should be "a piece of cake".  I wish I could help you get ready, but I do all my running ealry in the morning before work, and I'm guessing you probably don't want to drive to from Western Ma. for an early morning run.

Ugh, there are three MRR Official Threads

I haven't run in this since I was 19 (21 years ago).  I remember the start as being a real mess.  I am thinking about running a 5 k so I can try to get in a corral.  I am right there on the cusp of an 8:00 m/m for a 5k during training.  I would think that the race environ will help me with about 10 seconds/mile or so.

Its a slowly moving party, not a race.  Just be sure if you're using the shuttle buses to get there early because the lines can be wicked long.

My favorite picture from last year:

We usually get there about 45 minutes early, and park in the commuter lots behing main street.  i think most people are afraid to venture into town - so the lots don't fill up too fast.
Music all along the route, great people watching event, and alot of bobing and weaving to get anywhere.  alot of walkers don't start w/ the walkers - so they slow down the beginning.
the first year i did it w/ my neices they thought it was so cool, and have come back 3 years in a row to run w/ me!!

Having done this race 20 times and every year I say I will not do the race again... If you want to race then I highly reccomend geeting a seeding card. I think you can get one at the East Windsor Vet. road race next Sat.
